Beechwood 70 St. Henry 0

I am all for laying it on your opponent. Regardless of school size I don't think Saint Henry playing their first season in this district does them any justice. I don't know where you would place them. I wish Beechwood would play up. They can hang with the big boys.

Or maybe Coach Volker's new baby boy born a couple days ago.

  • Why are people constantly crying about these outcomes? The goal is to win the state title. If you play Mr. Nice Guy every week, your team is going to lose it's game conditioning. We lost 57-0 to Bourb

Beechwood wishes they could play up. State rules don't allow it. St. Henry has 2 district wins and has a really good chance to finish 3rd in the district. It is a 6 team district. It will come do

St. Henry has 2 district wins and has a really good chance to finish 3rd in the district. It is a 6 team district. It will come down to their last district game against Walton Verona to see who finishes 3rd in the district. That will be an exciting matchup. Don't let what happened in this game tarnish what St. Henry has accomplished in year one. I think there is a solid chance St. Henry finishes second in the district next year.

If St. Henry hadn't turned the ball over so much, it may not have been 60. It was the 4 turnovers including a pick 6 that pushed the score this high, with 3 turnovers in the first quarter.

The turnovers have been brutal. During the Bellevue game, they might’ve had 4 (?) in the first half… and they were fumbles on the snap (most under center). Fundamental mistakes. Was it a similar thing for the non-pick 6 turnovers?

I’ve said it before - you can certainly tell football isn’t in St. Henry’s DNA yet. But judging by the JV team’s season and what I’ve seen on Facebook from the middle school program, seems like they’re on a good path for better days! Trust the process and maybe one day we’ll avoid the shutout against Beechwood lol

I would call the fumbles careless. Personally, if I am coach, if you can't hold onto the ball you aren't going to carry it. I have seen it happen at Beechwood. Really good running backs that get moved to another position because they can't stop fumbling. St. Henry's top RB Kunstek was injured and didn't play last night so that may have been part of the fumbling problem last night. Just not enough experience carrying the ball to know ball security is job #1 for a RB.

If they really want to play up, they can submit the paperwork requesting to play up when the KHSAA does redistricting after next football season. If they need a letter of reference, they can probably get one from every team in the district.

If they wanted to play up in 3A wouldn’t the KHSAA need to find a 3A team that would be willing to move down to 2A?

I would be interested in seeing the Beechwood Tigers in 3A.

IIRC KHSAA has changed the rules where no one can move up or down.  You are locked into where you are, right?

There is no reason Beechwood should be playing up. 3A is weaker than 2A other than the one outlier being the mighty CAL. Beechwood would have to play up 2 classes to achieve what you are getting at by saying that. That’s unnecessary.

We lost 57-0 to Bourbon Co and 62-0 to Highlands, none of the guys on that team complained about the score being to much.

I’ve made this same argument several times. The kids on these teams don’t care about blowouts nearly as much as the adults do.

There is no more playing up or playing down, you play where your enrollment says you play.

You could schedule up like many teams do.  Play CAL, play Highlands, Lex Cath etc.  Still not sure why they don't want to play Highlands.  They schedule games against Simon Kenton, Campbell County, Dixie.  Doesn't seem to make much sense to say you are a small school and play 5A and 6A teams but not want to schedule the likes of Highlands 4A and CAL 3A.

By this logic, you're assuming that EVERY state power in 3A through 6A is banging down the door to play Beechwood? Surely you see the issue there, correct? The tired narrative that Beechwood would dodge or shy away from playing anyone is...well...faulty to say the least.

First let's reiterate that they are in a 6 team district and its NOT Beechwood's fault that the other 5 district opponents are really not very good.

Being in a 5 team district means only 5 games you can play that are not district.  The NCC game has been a great game for 30 years until perhaps now.  That is the only one that maybe Beechwood needs to re think.

Where would you come up with the idea that they do not want to schedule Highlands, CAL, and heck just for fun Trinity, and St Xavier?  I can tell you that those teams have no reason to schedule Beechwood because of the RPI issues.  Further, as a 2A school that plays many players both ways you also have to use some common sense with scheduling teams that feature mainly 1 way players.

This is what the 6 class system has led to.

I don’t  to beat a dead horse but here we are!

Go to 4 (with movement allowed) and let the games continue.
