MBKT Posted September 29 Posted September 29 I will jump in with some of the absurdity in 6A -Oldham County is ahead of St. X even though 5 of Oldham’s 6 opponents are in lesser classes -McCracken (they are bad) is ranked #11 having played multiple 2A and 3A schools and NO 6A schools -Manual is ahead of Trinity after playing 3 lower class schools of their 6 games. Trinity is 5-1 and has ONLY played FD, Carmel, Moeller, Male and St. X Don't worry, nothing to see here. 2
Tigerpride94 Posted September 29 Posted September 29 St. X and Trinity dinged some on the strength of schedule because out of state opponents count as .500 team. Trinity opponent Moeller undefeated and Carmel 1 loss. St. X opponent Elder undefeated.
MBKT Posted September 29 Posted September 29 Consider these 2 examples as the flawed nature of the RPI. A brutal absurdity. Oldham County receives a .62 for defeating a mediocre 3A DeSales squad St. X receives a .51 for losing by 2 points to an undefeated Cincinnati Elder team that is Top 5 or Top 10 in Ohio big boy football. If your RPI “system” allows this, it is a lousy system with zero credibility. 4
Hungover_in_Andover Posted September 29 Posted September 29 Based on these ratings, Douglass can afford to lose at least one non-district game of their remaining 5 , and stay ahead of Ryle for home field advantage if Ryle wins out. Ryle's remaining district foes RPIs are way lower than FD's district foes RPIs. 3rd round east teams, T, FD, Ryle and either Mad. Cent or Bryan Station. I project a final 4 of #1 South Warren, #2 Manual, #3 Trinity and #4 Douglass.
EastSideJunkie Posted September 29 Posted September 29 First of all, whatever. Just win and don't fret; this is a dumb system. But a couple of thoughts, if you look at this list: **There is absolutely no possible way there are eight teams worse than PRP. If that's the case, then this must be the worst year ever for 6A football in Kentucky. **I assume that South Warren and likely Manual would be ahead of the Trinity-St. X winner just because of the out-of-state component. It's stupid, but it is what it is. I doubt Trinity or X will stop playing the better out-of-state teams just to get the RPI up. Other schools may, but not those two. **Oldham County up there just makes the whole thing absurd. I assume that number will come down over the next few weeks when they play Ballard and Trinity. **Douglass and Ryle are in an interesting battle. I can't imagine it won't come down to those two schools to play each other....with the highest RPI getting home-field advantage. Crazy they are that close in the first one. **A lot of things to make you scratch your head if you really look at the rankings and go to each team's schedules. Don't understand the KHSAA keeping this; don't see how they can for much longer. 3
Hardin County Preps Posted September 29 Posted September 29 I can name one team worse than PRP! Initials CH
WishboneCity Posted September 29 Posted September 29 A massive reason that Oldham is ahead of St. X is because they have played an extra game. I agree that the system is flawed, however this week Oldham has a bye and X plays. Thus, I would imagine X will jump Oldham with plenty of breathing room.

16thBBall Fan Posted October 5 Posted October 5 Maybe someone is smarter than me, but please explain to me going into this week Frederick Douglass was .00233 ahead of Ryle. Ryle does not play this week Douglass goes on the road and shuts out Male 14-0. They both have played tough schedules Ryle beat a very good 4A team in Covington Catholic but lost to 5A powers Highlands and Cooper. Douglass 3 losses were to the same Highlands team be 3 fewer points than Ryle then lost to the current #2 ranked and the #5 ranked teams in 6A. As I stated above going into the week Douglass was .00233 ahead and today with the above info they are now ,00563 behind Ryle. That is a change of .0033. I find this rather baffling but there is a lot about the RPI that is hard to figure out.
