6A RPI Rankings - 2025

Maybe someone is smarter than me, but please explain to me going into this week Frederick Douglass was .00233 ahead of Ryle. Ryle does not play this week Douglass goes on the road and shuts out Male 14-0. They both have played tough schedules Ryle beat a very good 4A team in Covington Catholic but lost to 5A powers Highlands and Cooper. Douglass 3 losses were to the same Highlands team be 3 fewer points than Ryle then lost to the current #2 ranked and the #5 ranked teams in 6A. As I stated above going into the week Douglass was .00233 ahead and today with the above info they are now ,00563 behind Ryle. That is a change of .0033. I find this rather baffling but there is a lot about the RPI that is hard to figure out.

Because of Trinity's RPI. Remember,  T's RPI is considerably low because of their out of state games. CAL's RPI is very high. So, that is likely the reason for the flip, in addition to Male having a deservedly low RPI. However, with #3 6A RPI Madison Central coming to town, the opportunity to jump Ryle is within grasp.

Douglass' remaining district foes are ALL significantly higher rated than Ryle's district, in addition to Boyle in the season finale.  So, Douglass just has to handle business and they can earn home field through the third round.

  • The Rocks must have the worst win percentage in hypothetical games here on BGP than any other school. Usually we don’t start losing till just after a State Title. ?

  • Consider these 2 examples as the flawed nature of the RPI.  A brutal absurdity. Oldham County receives a .62 for defeating a mediocre 3A DeSales squad   St. X receives a .51 for losing

  • There is a lot of football left to be played. If T and X were to meet in the finals, that would be fine, but if T has to go to X's field for a home game, that's only because T must play at least 3 out

Looks like could be a St. X/Manual rematch in 3rd round of playoffs and potentially St. X hosting Trinity in semifinals.

This RPI is a joke. Penalized for playing a tough out of state schedule.

True but you know that going in.  And, playing that tough out of state schedule prepares you better for winning the state championship.

Yes, and what a joke.

That sure is nice for the rest of Kentucky. Basically the "At-Large" format from yesteryear.

If Trinity ends up playing at X in the playoffs, that would be a total and complete travesty.

Unfortunately, those scenarios happen.  Last year, CAL was the benefactor of the RPI and Central had to come to them in the playoffs even though Central beat CAL convincingly in the regular season at Central.  I didn't agree with it even though it benefited the team I have a vested interest in.

I think Trinity and X are on opposite sides of the brackets. I may not fully understand it but think Districts 1-4 are grouped on one side and 5- 8 on the other.

As I understand it X would be grouped with Manual and South Warren and would not play Trinity until the final if X can get there.

Again I might not understand this fully.

Male and Bullitt East are also on the side with X Manual and South Warren.

No, it's cross district for rounds 1 & 2, East (districts 5-8) & West (districts 1-4) for round 3, then for round 4 if the last 4 teams left where 1 plays 4 and 2 plays 3 depending on RPI.  The earliest X & T could play is round 4, and not in the championship, but it could happen.

Correct. In Round 4 (state semis) the remaining 4 teams are stacked 1 thru 4 based on their season ending RPI (after week 11). In Round 4 west region or east region are not relevant.  Whichever are the 2 highest RPI teams host the semifinal games. This is true in all 6 classes.
