A few notes:

1) It will be fun for the kids. 

2) It will change late game situations dramatically, and that could be fun. 

3) Finding someone competent to run it will be impossible. jv officials are about the best solution, but of course that will also come with a cost. 

4) Was not needed. if a team didn't want another team to "hold the ball" go out and trap them, speed them up. but that's not wanted because if you are the team trapping, you might give up layups and subsequently get beat. we just took away a big source of strategy for upsets, that's all. (for reference, see the bryan station-lex cath game when jaron and eric Brown beat lch by slowing it down- by the way it was an awesome game, slow or not, and a great strategy.)

5) The most the shot clock will affect any possession in a game is when the operator forgets to reset it, and they have to stop play. watched this with a team playing in florida using the shot clock for 3 games. only 1 possession came down to shot clock.

I understand.  It just seems to me that given how much ticket prices (and concessions) have risen in the last few years there would be enough to pay for a shot clock keeper, especially if they had one of the JV officials stick around as someone suggested.

The prices have risen due to the costs of everything going up. 

Not to mention fewer people are going to games.

In the talks have had with folks around Louisville, this is somewhat the main comment I've heard. Schools now have to have somebody to run the game clock, official book (which in many cases is a coach or other school employee), as well as a shot clock operator. 

Just adds another position needed to be filled at the table.

Most schools I know don't pay the clock operators or book keepers so it's going to be hard to justify paying the shot clock operator.

I see what you mean, suddenly we have to pay three people if we are going to pay, and if we don't pay will we be able to find someone, ugh.

Most school systems are multi million dollar enterprises with large operating budgets.  A few hundred bucks to pay clock operators isn't going to break the bank.  

I also understand this isn't how school administrators always look at extra curricular activities (which is unfortunate).  However, the expense and not being able to find someone to run the clocks should be a moot point.  If no one volunteers...pay them!

Would they get paid the same game fee as the varsity officials? Do they have to be a competent person and not high school kid or parent with a kid on the team?

Multi Million? Not sure what schools you think are like that. If there are some then they are few and far in between.

I’d say MOST school SYSTEMS in the State. Think about it, grade schools, middle schools and high schools in even the smallest of counties have many teachers, administrators and maintenance staff. 
 

A million dollars gets gobbled up pretty fast.
