Brennan_Bucher Posted September 17 Posted September 17 Per Jason Frakes, Kentucky high school basketball shot clock approved by KHSAA Board of Control for 2027-28 season. 35 seconds. Thoughts? 1 2

Thoughts? I guess people who only watch a couple postseason games during the state tournament and nothing else throughout the year will have to find something else in Kentucky high school basketball to complain about. 1 6
DragonFire Posted September 17 Posted September 17 Nothing I can say that I haven’t said before. Schools consistently voted against this so naturally it passes by a wide margin. The KHSAA… 1

DragonFire Posted September 17 Posted September 17 Just now, theguru said: What do you think the dynamic is there? I honestly don’t try to figure out the mind of KHSAA BOC. They do whatever the heck they want with no real regard for input. This whole issue felt relatively dead just a month or two back when it was discussed. And then BAM it’s passed. We’ve seen that more than once from them. 2 1

ACfan4 Posted September 17 Posted September 17 Chances of upsets will now go down, and more skilled and talented teams should win more often than not. 3
Bballjunkie Posted September 17 Posted September 17 High school kids getting NIL money, kids transfer constantly with no punishment and now a shot clock.. The older I get the more I feel like a grumpy old grandpa. I just want to hold onto the good ole days but unfortunately, they are gone. High school basketball is still my favorite sport so I will get used to it. TO be honest it will not affect 99% of the games because basketball is a faster sport now than it has ever been but I am a sucker for a district or regional game where the top seed gets beat because the other team holds the ball the last 2 minutes of the 3rd and 4th quarter..... Upsets are fun!!!! 7
rjs4470 Posted September 17 Posted September 17 This change was inevitable, whether it was a good idea or not. Eventually the stuff you see at the Pro and college levels trickle down to high school sport, whether it's technology, equipment, rules etc. Some of these changes take longer than others, but they do eventually happen. I don't think it's a great idea, or was even necessary, but high school basketball will be ok with a shot clock.
Jumper_Dad Posted September 17 Posted September 17 Might as well join the 21st Century. The only real detriment I see is what @Bballjunkie mentioned, giving a team a real chance to pull an upset in the district or regional games by taking the air out of the ball.
5thregionbasketball Posted September 17 Posted September 17 How do they expect schools who struggle to find one person to run the game clock consistently and accurately, now find someone who can run a shot-clock as well? I know that's an over exaggeration but this will be an issue for many smaller schools. 9
brooksville Posted September 17 Posted September 17 60% of schools said in a survey this summer that they do not want a shot clock. Why is the KHSAA Board of Control going against the wishes of its member schools? Also, why have they not mandated a working play clock in football if it’s an essential part of the game? In basketball if they can’t find anyone to work the shot clock or it’s broken will an official have to keep it like they do for the football play clock? 1
Brennan_Bucher Posted September 17 Author Posted September 17 Big fan of the move from a game perspective, I think it's good for the game to have. However, from an athletic department and operational standpoint...I understand why you wouldn't get on board. You're going to have to pay for a shot clock, install it, and find a person to run it, pay them, and make sure they are constantly there. Let's face it, the season is long and finding committed people for each game will be difficult. Also, will this include JV and Freshman? That's another hoop to jump through. But again, for the purpose of the game....I am all for it. 5
brooksville Posted September 17 Posted September 17 The KHSAA board president said he wanted a shot clock to bring basketball in Kentucky to “modern times”. If that’s what they want, then wouldn’t a class system for basketball be the next move? Or do they pick and choose when to use the “modern times” logic. 3
