I agree it is "punishment" to the 98% or more of teachers/coaches/etc. that are amazing and would never violate a child under any circumstances.

Agree, but think the number is probably 99.9%!

The fact that this requires 10 pages of guidance shows how poorly thought out this thing was. Also, the fact that this applies to teacher's personal lives to such an extent means that it will kil

  • It’s a ridiculous law.  It punishes the good ones.  The people who are inappropriately communicating with students or players don’t care about the rules anyways.

This is a complete and utter nightmare for anyone involved in education, and even moreso if that person does any type of extra curricular. Retweeting players stuff for the hopes of recruiting see

I sure hope so but like anything, for the one we know about, there are multiple others we don't know about.

I have the Remind app that coaches contact us on. Will the new company make the switch easy for us non-technical people?

Did security tonight for VBS. Went in to eat my hot dog, sat by myself! Didn’t think should sit w/ the kids. Lol.

As crazy as that sounds, I think you are right, you should not be sitting with the kids.

Unless you are kidding that breaks my heart that we need security at VBS. Sad state of affairs. As a long time coach and official I worry about all those folks' safety.

Yes. We need security. And, yes. Sad.

HUDL is definitely a form of electronic communication, I mean on some level that is the point of HUDL.

I think coaches will need to use a school email and the players all use school emails when the register.  I know a lot of coaches use their personal emails for coaching duties when they are not employed by the school.  I think coaches will nto be required to use their school email.

I am worried some really good coaches could lose their jobs because they do not know how to use this new technology and accidently communicate outside of what is approved.  The new rules do not give any exceptions.

Unfortunately, in his annual speech via the rules clinics, the KHSAA commissioner would have you walk out of a restaurant where one of your athletes was eating if you walked in on dead period. That may work in big cities, but is not feasible in a one-horse town with one restaurant.

Our school told us not to direct message kids through Hudl. Our district is using ParentSquare (they’re buying out remind). To either use that, school email, or if it’s urgent call the player directly.

I’m curious.

How is calling the player, even with a school phone, any different than texting?

I'd say that’s a big No No.

Sad times.

No idea. A few people kept asking like are we sure about that?? And our board was like yes, that’s fine.

My daughter graduated this year and my husband coaches at the same school.  She has friends in all grade levels and had a few football players not come to her grad party because "it is dead period and coach will be there". It is sad that the rules have to be so rigid because a few abuse them.
