Me either at all. Apparently the state laid out some really basic guidelines, then left it up to each district to decide how they wanted to proceed the move forward with it. I was shocked to find out we were allowed to call players. Didn’t make any sense, but makes things slightly easier. 

It’s a ridiculous law.  It punishes the good ones.  The people who are inappropriately communicating with students or players don’t care about the rules anyways.  

That "can's" and "can't" list is not correct. 

Public school employees are prohibited from contacting students digitally outside of District-approved platforms. 

Whoever included the "liking" and "retweeting" aspects of that list is likely operating under a misinterpretation of the regulations or a District-specific directive that I would say 99% of Districts will not enforce, and honestly, is probably an infringement on people's civil liberties.

The "list" may not be correct, I definitely will give everyone that one.  However, it says "Each local board of education shall designate a traceable communication system to be the exclusive means for a school district employee or volunteer to communicate electronically with students."  

With that said, and this not directed at you VF111, it is for everyone, I don't think schools are going to have a choice to "not enforce" this.

That doesn't make any sense to me.  This is a new law, not some basic guidelines that leave it up to local districts.  

This one is not directed at you DT, again to everyone, but one thing I have always noticed about schools is they think they are special and can pretty much do whatever they want.  I realize I am painting with a broad brush but I am thinking this is going to be a reality check for many of you that are used to getting your way with almost everything.

I agree it is "punishment" to the 98% or more of teachers/coaches/etc. that are amazing and would never violate a child under any circumstances.

Yep for sure. You’d think the state would’ve been out very black and white can do this can’t do that. Instead, it was like here’s some basic guidelines, now write it up like you want as long as it fits into our basic guidelines.

I guess I would need to see those "basic guidelines" that were given out.

The way I am reading this so far is HUDL will clearly be outside the "exclusive means" system used by all schools meaning there would need to be written permission on file for every student giving every coach access to use HUDL.  Beyond that, it would be a no go.  Again everyone, these are just my opinions reading the law. 

I understand why this is being done. But it seems a bit excessive and a slippery slope.

Our school told us not to direct message kids through Hudl. Our district is using ParentSquare (they’re buying out remind). To either use that, school email, or if it’s urgent call the player directly.

My advice to everyone would be to not have any contact with any child outside of approved school functions.  Eventually we will all have a better grip on this but until then better safe than sorry. 

I asked Coach Buchanan of Anderson County how Anderson is handling the new law and he told me:

"We are using Parent Square, exclusively. Remind is dead. We can still use Hudl for video and Notes on the video, but messaging is over. We can call students on school phone but not our personal phone. Overall, I give my Bosses and technology department an A+ on communication, common sense, and coming up with a workable plan."
