I got no problem with O’Hara as 1st team but Clay Hayden deserved to be recognized as an all state football player and to not even be recognized as HM what a bunch of bull crap.  I saw where 2 players from Martin County was on the 2nd team defense.  You gotta be kidding me.  No disrespect to Martin County or their players but I think Beechwood put a running clock on them in the first half and they have one kid recognized as HM.  That just ain’t right.  And I am not a Cov Cath fan but for no players from Cov Cath to be recognized as even HM and they beat the Boyle County team that many people were saying was the best KY team in the last 25 years.

I agree with you here.

I don't ever want to hear anything about a Trinity bias from these clown coaches again...The Shamrocks play Center Grove, Carmel, Cincy X, Lou. X, Male, Ballard, Douglass, Ryle, etc. EVERY YEAR and av

It’s all about votes. A third of the coaches returned ballots. If all the EKY coaches are returning their ballots then their kids are gonna be the ones that are best represented. Nothing more, nothing less.

Absolutely agreed. Any coaches not voting in polls - especially polls like this one - they are the ones doing their players a disservice by aiding in their lack of recognition. I know there is a lot on any coach's plate, and polling during the season can certainly be a pain, but once it gets to be this time of the year, they should be keeping an eye out for the emails coming from the Courier-Journal and the Herald-Leader.

A flawed process but I am not sure what process would be better.

A committee that accepts nominations, reviews film, and invests a lot of time.  But that is actual work.

Additionally, when you have a flawed process if you continue with it year after year, you (meaning the CJ) are the problem.

It is essentially a no win situation.

Perhaps a committee of retired coaches and/or media members who might enjoy the work as a fun hobby and not care about any pay? Include a recommendation process from current coaches and media to get names to be considered in front of the committee.

Wow, one Lexington player and no one from EKY or NKY, just wow.

Can’t speak for the EKY or NKY side but Who would you feel like from Lexington area deserved a spot. Douglas was the best in the city and they was way down in terms of talent and guys who produce other then Avion who really didn’t get his touches like he should. Bryan Station only had Jaws who really showed anything and there was plenty of RBs in state who produced over him. Franklin County was more so a great team compared to one great player or players. Scott county, Great crossing, Madison Central was solid teams as well but in this area wasn’t a lot of star players you could point out that deserved a all-state nod other then Brock and Penning, maybe Slayball at LB from Sayre.

First Team Defense:

DL - Javeon Campbell (Western Hills) Senior
DL - Austin Alexander (Cooper) Senior
DL - Travis Moten (Fern Creek) Senior
DL - Colton Veltkamp (South Warren) Senior
LB - Jeremiah Jones (Murray) Senior
LB - Karsten Busch (St. Xavier) Junior
LB - Brock Driver (Boyle County) Senior
DB - Antonio Harris (Male) Senior
DB - Martels Carter, Jr. (Paducah Tilghman) Senior
DB - Connor Hodge (Christian Academy Louisville) Senior
DB - Vanzale Hinton (Paducah Tilghman) Senior
P - Carson Hilbert (Trinity) Senior

121 coaches returned ballots voting for the CJ's All-State list.

Having Campbell from Western Hills is a joke. Watching Western Hills in person 3x and if it wasn’t for the size you wouldn’t even know he’s on the field.

CJ should list the coaches who voted (not who they voted for) so we can see which coaches did not participate.  Coaches are on these kids all year long about working to get better and supporting your team and teammates but when it is their turn to step up and advocate for their players they choose to not vote.  I guess they have more important things to do than support their kids who went out there every Friday night and laid it on the line.  I would guess that if they listed the coaches who voted then all the coaches would vote and we would have a better representation of the players who deserve to be recognized.

Honestly, I have no idea how any one head coach is supposed to know about all the best players in Kentucky.  If he does, he spent way too much time away from his own team. This is a flawed process on more than one level.

Bingo. Flawed for sure. 1. If you are going to have 6 state champs across 6 classifications, then how can you have 1 combined All State team?  How in the world can you compare a DL from a 2A school playing a Bracken County schedule with a DL from a 6A school playing a FD schedule.   2.  How can a coach in Paducah know one single thing about a player in Covington or in Paintsville?

I agree with you here.

A little surprised Jimmy Mooney from PT and the Williams kid from Mayfield didn’t get any recognition from the voters.

Has the idea of combining classes to help with this situation, been floated? 1-2A, 3-4A, 5/6A.

All this is about is a coach telling his coaching friends to vote for his kids and he'll vote for his kids.

Exactly, the good ole boy network.
