I do not see how they could vote Atwell rather than Hayden as the QB for this team. Hayden WON 2 state championships while Atwell won zero. Also, when they played head to head this year in the state final, Hayden led his team to a title that really wasn't close. that's my two pennies on that.

Hayden is a really talented QB, but if you switch teams Atwell leads Beechwood to a title.  I said it about the Owensboro game 3 years in a row, trade QB's (give Atwell to Oboro) and O dominates instead Owensboro lost two that were last minute sqeakers because of Atwell and won the 3rd where Catholic had to come from behind.  That's how good Brady Atwell is.  Rightfully deserved award if you ask me.  Better team - definitely Beechwood, better and more valuable QB - Atwell.

  • Honestly, I have no idea how any one head coach is supposed to know about all the best players in Kentucky.  If he does, he spent way too much time away from his own team. This is a flawed process on

I value championships over stats.  Hayden statistically will go down as one of the top 20 high school QBs to ever play the position in Kentucky and oh yeah he has 3 state championship rings.  Hayden is my All State QB.

SO if we had Brady Atwell we would go to State in 5-A? Ok that's fair. What would happen to Catholic if we traded QB's?

Probably a running clock in the finals.

I was unclear - if we trade Atwell for Delacey (Delacey did a pretty good job and is a really solid QB).  Owensboro would have dominated Catholic each of those years.  Maybe a running clock each year.  I meant nothing about how far Owensboro or Catholic would advance.  Same point I made about the Beechwood QB - fine QB very good, just Atwell is the better and more valuable high-school QB.  Switch them teams and I think it’s more of a blowout - Beechwood the better team, but Atwell the better QB.

I’ve been thinking about stopping wasting my money on the Courier Journal for a while. I called to cancel this morning and the agent said I could get 6 months for .99 p/m.  I told her that was .98 p/m too much. She even laughed.

I’m not sure can say Hayden should be over Atwell for it, when Hayden was probably number 2 in NKY behind Ohara. Which those stats you mentioned, Ohara is already ahead of him in the majority of those stats and still has a year to go.

Now with all that said this state is blessed with some great QBs right now. Atwell, Barber, Hayden, Ohara, etc are all great QBs and arguments can definitely be made for all of them.

Tough year for an All State team. Tons of very good players but almost no clear-cut-best-at-their-position players. I would say Quisenberry is as close as you get and I would argue the Johnson kid from Cooper and Barber from BG are pretty close to him.

This! Johnson falling all the way to third team surprised me. As I thought he easily should have been first team, or at worst second team offense.

This is voted on by the coaches that turned in their ballots....... Mr. Frakes and the C.J. just count the votes.  Film, stats, teams, who they saw play all play a part. A player may play on a state championship team but just like the draft and recruiting they may not be one of top players.

I hear what you are saying and this is not directed at you.  On the first team we have one player from Lexington, one from NKY and none from EKY.  So we have roughly half of the state of Kentucky with only two players on the team, I believe that is unsatisfactory and that is being nice. I think we have a classic case of shared responsibility with no accountability.  It is a real shame.  With all that said, congratulations to all the fine players that made the 1st team.

Many states, mostly larger states, do All-State teams by classes. Maybe that is the answer to recognize players.  That being said, do not think we will ever get a 1st Team that will satisfy everyone.  One all State team for roughly 220 teams ( 6,000 or so players?) is difficult.

That is way too many teams/classes.  And I am biased, but BGP did a great job with our past All BlugrassPreps.com football teams and yes it was very difficult.

A few certain players should be on the team. After that it's subjective. It's the same argument every year.

I got no problem with O’Hara as 1st team but Clay Hayden deserved to be recognized as an all state football player and to not even be recognized as HM what a bunch of bull crap.  I saw where 2 players from Martin County was on the 2nd team defense.  You gotta be kidding me.  No disrespect to Martin County or their players but I think Beechwood put a running clock on them in the first half and they have one kid recognized as HM.  That just ain’t right.  And I am not a Cov Cath fan but for no players from Cov Cath to be recognized as even HM and they beat the Boyle County team that many people were saying was the best KY team in the last 25 years.

That is not my point in this thread although I agree with you.  We have a clear, geographical bias, horribly much so.
