I am also an old guy high school sports fan and I prefer “butts in seats”. That is what makes the game day experience so great for the players and cheerleaders. Not more and more people staying home as a “comfort”. And I have been to several different high school football games this season where the administration has said that live streaming is definitely causing smaller crowds.

I think the live stream ship has sailed.  Almost all the "cool kids" do it.  And if you need grandma and grandpa to help with tuition at a school like Beechwood, they want to be able to view the games in Florida or wherever they may be without being forced into wind chills in the teens.

  • I guess I will wade into this, but it really needs its own thread. There is too much that needs to be said, but I will be brief.  First, the generation of fans that started this ride 50 or so yea

Beechwood has tried that over night travel and it was a disaster. What led to the LCA domination is LCA is better than Mayfield.

I like BW in this one, while LCA is impressive I think the beatdown over Mayfield is being given more credit than it deserves. Mayfield, this year, was young, especially at QB, he made great strides but not to the level to beat a team like LCA that was superior in pretty much ever facet of the game. BW art home will not have that problem.  That said I don't follow it like I use too so I could be way off. But that's my worthless 3 cents worth.

I think it is intentional, they want the gate.

No doubt you both are correct; but, at 78 and falling apart…bad weather games not in my wheelhouse.  Absolutely, hate missing the game and streaming keeps the older generations feeling still involved/supportive.  Beechwood radio crew does an awesome job, and would be hard to beat matching them with live streaming.

Of course.

I would think they “need the gate”. Football used to keep a lot of the other sports above water. The equipment for  football isn’t cheap either.

Speaking as someone from the inside of this kind of situation, there are a lot of correct things here. The grandparents are out of town want to watch the kids play without sitting in the elements, the football gate is absolutely needed and as part of the decision-making process on if to offer a stream, and football also is one of the only sports that makes a profit or even comes close to breaking even at most schools.

The answer to this is really simple, you offer a stream for $10 an event. You don’t completely recoup the $30 a family would’ve paid to come in, but you don’t take a total loss either because right now, in today’s world there are way better things to do than to sit in 20° weather to watch football. Some of those people will watch online though. This would also pull in the casual fan. I have extreme interest in the Cooper and Highlands game on Friday, but not enough interest to shiver for 4 quarters. I’d watch online.

I'm spoiled. I want it free.

Sorry for all the typos. Speech to text on BGP isn’t the answer lol

I think you are right. I heard from a reliable source that LCA offered to bring their crew and do a live stream and so far have not gotten anywhere.

Good for Beechwood. They earned home field advantage and have decided radio only. By the way, the KHSAA believes in live streaming the 6 championship games, but behind a pay wall. Makes total sense to me on both counts.

I am with you I like butts in seats as that's the whole point of home field advantage. Butts in seats is what the kids feed off of and get motivation from... As much as I love red helmet video streaming,  I was very disappointed in the attendance at Mayfield when we played LCA this past Friday. ..it was nothing compared to last year...not sure if it was 6pm start or what...or is it that streaming is killing attendance but you would think not in big games such as that one or even this one...

I think I like LCA in this one. They are able to pull the slight upset.

LCA - 28

Beechwood - 21

A pay wall is fine with me, I want the choice/option.  And on the finals, here it is everyone:

It is not Red Helmet Sports.  There was live video of LCA/Mayfield last year and the game this year.  Last year's video has 12K views, this year's video has 6K views.  It is not video and anyone saying so is lazy and uninformed.  Furthermore, at this point if you go away from the Red Helmet Videos I think you run a real chance of alienating a lot of fans.
