I believe this season will be Cooper’s best yet to get it done. With saying that, Bowling Green obviously can’t be counted out along with others. I believe Cooper may be the best, but you have to beat the best to do it, which is why I would keep BG #1 until they are beaten. South Warren, Owensboro, and Highlands will likely be good contenders too. I think Highlands is the biggest question mark with losing all the seniors that they did from last season and especially with losing Benke.

@DevilMayCare Atherton is getting a lot of talk and hype here around town after last season. I still have a kind of prove it again attitude before I can really say that they are a top 10 team but it is very possible. Either way just a remarkable story and turn around over there and a team that I am extremely excited to watch and cover this year!  

Scott County is definitely the sleeper.  Not a lot of people are talking about them in the 5A conversation me included.  But when you take a good look at that roster they are loaded.

Heard nothing but really good things about Atherton at the EKU 7v7. Not that that’s the end all be all, but from what I was told they looked like they belonged on the field with just about everyone they played. 
 

I’m interested to see what their line play will look like, but from what I’m hearing they have some very nice pieces. 

Highlands won the EKU 7-on-7. Have I mentioned that I think they're gonna beat Cooper this year?

Winning the EKU 7 on 7 last year didn’t help them beat Cooper when it mattered in the playoffs last year. 
 

As I have said all off season I do think while Highlands is young, they are extremely talented and will be a top 5 team in the state who is capable of beating anyone in 5A.

I hear and understand what you’re saying about 7v7 not translating to success during the regular season and playoffs, but Highlands did not win the EKU 7 on 7 in 2023.  They lost to Boyle in the semifinals.  Boyle then beat LCA in the championship game. 

I vote for Highlands to win the mythical 7 v 7 high school national championship.

?Highlands #1 until they are beaten at least 3 times.  Everyone else thereafter.

Thanks for the correction. For some reason I thought they did. 

I like Bowling Green at the top.  Then probably Cooper or maybe Scott County.

I read through this thread and there were some astute comments made by all. Almost every comment posted in this thread proved true through the season. Well done BGP posters!
