I just don't think it's coincidence the last year or two we have seen more off the court shenanigans with parents and players more than ever and now this.

Don’t see Sully

Otte just left Conner for family reasons so don’t see that happening either.

I have no idea about Sully faith but being catholic isn't necessarily a deal breaker but it helps a lot when they see it on that application.

Definitely elevated basketball in the 9th region. In his 7th season at CovCath, Coach Ruthsatz 2018 state championship CovCath team won the 9th region posting an average margin of victory of 30 points. I'm really young but that is something I believe has never happened in the 9th region and surely has not been achieved since. The closest team to achieving that since the 2000-01 season (23 years) was the 2008 State runner-up Holmes team who posted a 29.3 average margin of victory. When a team runs through the region with such a large point differential, it indicates that the surrounding teams have to elevate their game. The 9th region teams responded accordingly. In the six years since 2018, Newport produced two regional titles, Highlands won its first regional title in over 20 years and its first ever state championship. However, since 2018 Coach Ruthsatz has won the 9th region an impressive 3/6 times but has not reached the 9th region final in the last two seasons.  

Hopefully whoever CovCath decides to hire is able to raise the bar even more in the 9th region.

I don't think he will because of this more than anything. But gosh can we do a hypothetical for a second, Sully with all that talent at his disposal would be something.

Definitely isn't performance. The guy had an 85% win rate! 2 of the very few state titles up here. I assume if he continued to coach at that rate he would have went down as the most accomplished coach in Kentucky history. If you just doubled his years and put his coaching to 26 years, at that rate he would have had 960 wins. He had 479 in 13 years, just unheard of.

Just my humble opinion here, and I will keep it completely local.  I think the CovCath faithful might want someone that has at least some CovCath/local ties.

I think this job will have a very large net cast for candidates, well beyond NKY. The retirement issue is a big problem for Sullivan, so I'd say he is a longshot at best for this job. Aside from Sullivan, I don't know that there's a big enough name in NKY for this job.

Completely agree. Sully would be the top candidate as he’s a proven winner, and being the only local coach to have beaten CCH 3 times in a row, so he knows how to squeeze the most out of his players. However, in spite of whatever may be taking place at Cooper, he does have a strong nucleus coming back next season with Andy Johnson and the Combs and Pouncy brothers. 

I see this job getting filled by someone outside the NKY area IMO. 

No matter what did or didn't go down, Scott sure has left his mark on NKY basketball and the NKY community!  And its a better region because of that. These will be big shoes to fill.  I'd imagine a large search.

Congrats and best of luck to the whole Ruthsatz family wherever they land next!  I wonder if he'll step his toes in, looking to join the college basketball ranks?  Seems like it could be good timing.
