Mason County Basketball Soap Opera

It's about the team!  They should play golf if they want it all about them.  Like a previous poster said, at some point take accountability.

Good.  Actions have consequences, if they don't learn that at home, maybe they can learn it on BGP.

This may answer a lot of questions on what's happening with the Mason County Boys basketball.

1) Earlier in the season, bickering between some players and the Reed brothers led to some players walking out of practice.

2) After the Rowan County game, Blake approached the coaches in the locker room saying they were holding him back from scoring 40 points a game.  He also stated he didn't care if the team loses as long as he gets his points.  Blake was loud and told Coach Kirk you know I can do it too.  Coach Kirk responded by saying yes I know that, but I want to win.  Blake responded by saying I don't care if we win, I want my points.

3) As of the East Jessamine game, Cayden told the coaches he was not going to start if Blake wasn't starting.  Coach Kirk still put Cayden in the starting lineup.  Cayden told the assistant coach he was going to shoot the ball every time he touched it, and wasn't going to play any defense.  When the game started.  Coach Kirk called a time out early in the first quarter.  Cayden was standing away from the huddle during the timeout.  Coach Kirk told him to come to the huddle so he could see what they were going to do after the timeout.  Cayden turned his head and did not come to the huddle.  Coach Kirk then told Blake to sub in for Cayden.  Blake refused to go into the game.  Evidently the Reed parents wasn't aware of this.  Adam asked the assistant coach at halftime why Blake and Cayden wasn't playing.  The Reed parents left at that time.  Adam returned in the 4th quarter and set behind the bench behind Blake and Cayden.  During a timeout, Adam walked to the front of the bench and put his hands on Coach Kirk's chair.  Coach Kirk requested the active AD to have him removed from the gym.  Adam responded by saying your gonna have to call 911 if you want me removed. After the game, the mother came back and starting cussing and hitting Adam in the parking lot.  (Can't make this stuff up!)

For anyone thinking Coach Kirk is out to get ANY player is about as laughable as some of the facebook post.  He had high expectations for this team, and still does, to win District and Region and was excited when Blake and Cayden was ruled eligible.  Every Coach has ways to handle certain situations.  I guarantee no player(s) would get by with the things that has happened this season without some sort of punishment.  I commend Coach Kirk for sticking to his core values as a Coach.  Sometimes, you just got to cut the cord and move on.  That coaching staff tried to get buy-in without prevail.  I hate to see Blake's senior season go down the drain like this, but sometimes you got to man up and take accountability for your own actions. There are many other things that has happened throughout the season that is not mentioned in this post.

This is not gossip, or he said she said.

Holy Toledo!!! I mean wow. Up here in NKY I've seen coaches wives single out officials during timeouts, but I've yet to see parents stand behind the HC's chair during a timeout or players flat out refusing to play. These boys will be digging ditches in the near future if someone doesn't intervene to help them turn their lives around. If my child acted that way I'd go right to the HC and say don't play them or I'll just pull them off the team so the distraction goes away.

Always three sides to every story. All parties involved are to blame and not just the kids.

Can you expand on this? I am assuming your are calling out the coach. What is he to do other than dismiss the players from the team?

I’m saying that each side has their stories and somewhere in the middle is the truth. I’m not connected but seeing everything on Facebook makes it seem like certain promises were made and not kept. If I were to blame the coach, I’d blame him for letting the culture get this bad. This isn’t a one time issue, it’s been building for months as you can see on here.

I hope this is resolved quickly.  I don’t want Blake to finish his HS career in this manner.  I hope people remember these are young men involved and they are seeing these comments.

O'h my word, I long for the dislike button.

Months?? By the history I’d say years lol. Someone correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t this the first year without dadyball coaching em?

My question is…Why are they still on the team??

To this is AAU type stuff at its finest. Sad.

I hate this I know several of those kids that have come up through the system and played in conference as 7th and 8th graders they are some great kids.

Things are about to get interesting.

Honestly if what had been put out there was true, they had to do that.  There's no doubt it hurts Mason County's talent, but tolerating that conduct exposes the program to risk they simply could not absorb.  That's how you lose coaches, players, supporters, etc.  No 1-2 players are above the team.

I’m interested in seeing the trickle down effect, and what the parents bring to light if anything…

Coach Kirk has won 2 of the last 3 COY awards in the 10th. 2A State championship last season.

I remember reading someone saying it the coaches have allowed it to be a “culture issue”.  Go ask the players from the previous season how the felt/feel about the culture.

This isn’t a coaching issue.  There’s not a coach in the state would have allowed them to get away with the statements listed on this thread.

Watch and see the “culture” be perfectly fine now they have been dismissed.

Just a real shame for all parties involved. Coaches, players, and Reeds.

Didn't the Mason County people mock and laugh at Bracken County when the Reeds were there?  Mason County welcomed them with open arms when they transferred.
