Rupp Arena: Homecourt ADVANTAGE?

Featured Replies

Truth of the matter is, if you start taking lower areana seats from people the donations stop. Basketball has alot to do with all the students getting an education at UK.

The only thing intimidating about Rupp is the size. Not the people inside.

Uh, the tickets to all sporting events are sold and people are entitled to the seats they pay for.

Well lets see if the University allowed more seats to be for students, then those people wouldn't be able to be pay for those seats to be entitled to them. So basically nobody is entitled to anything it just is what the athletic department decides on how to set up things...

As you watch college basketball games this season, does it seem that Rupp just doesn't have the same affect on visitors?

Today, around the nation, the crowds of other schools were definitely a factor. I think that the overwhelming support from the student body has a lot to do with this. You look around the floors of other schools and you see the young demographic on their feet. I do not see this at Rupp. Why do I see nothing but retired alumni doing nothing to inspire the players on the floor? There should be a memo given to everyone as they enter the arena that standing and noise are encouraged. The "e-RUPP-tion zone" just isn't big enough. Isn't this college basketball? There isn't much of a college atmosphere at Rupp Arena, looks more like a Lion's Club or a nursing home.

In conclusion, it's absolutely pathetic who gets to sit close to the action and show no emotion throughout the home season.

I hate to say it but I agree. In the past 4 years, I have been to 12, 14, 12, and 5 home games. For the most part, the crowd in the lower arena is a bunch of deadbeats that look at you like you're stupid if you stand up and cheer. It almost seems like teams actually play better at Rupp Arena than they do on their own home courts.

Rupp arena is home to a bunch of rich farmers.. its not going to change

If only there were a bunch of Richie Farmers, man, it would get crazy...

Because that is a chance for some fans who dont get to see a live UK game at home a chance to go to a game, and it wouldn't matter to them. I know before I came to UK I was the same way I would just want to go because it something many people dont get to experience and that is going to a UK game. However for students they have plenty of chances throughout the year to go to games. So instead of sitting in rows ZZ, they usually decide sometimes to just wait and take their chances at the next lottery and get better seats hopefully...

I have plenty of opportunities to go to games too. But if someone is going to give me a $5 ticket and I don't have any other priorities, Im going to go. I don't care if I am staring at the red rafters or if Im sitting 9 rows off the floor. And if I didn't go, I for sure wouldn't be complaining about not having good enough seats.

So what do you think would happen then? Would the people continue to pay for those seats "they're not entitled to?" The answer is likely, No.

As far as entitlement shouldn't the people who have had the seats for all their life, have a little more right to the seats than some student that likely won't be going to the games for more than a few years anyway?

UNC was considered a wine and cheese crowd and the school changed the seating, by moving the student down on the floor. There were a lot of complaints, but UNC stood by the their decision and now I think it is a lot harder for teams to play the Dean Dome.

I am not a Duke fan at all, but I am always impressed with the student section during all their games.

Maybe we could have a throw back game and play one SEC game at memorial colusium and see how that affects everyone.

Rupp could potentially be the most intimidating place to play in the nation based on it's size and tradition.

Sadly, the crowd and the Erupption Zone are both pathetic, so it's no different for a team playing at EKU's gym, other than size of the place.

I do not know why, but that cracked me up for some reason.

I also hate to agree,but it is true.Dead crowd.

Rupp is certainly not the intimidating place that it used to be.
