Rupp Arena: Homecourt ADVANTAGE?

Featured Replies

As you watch college basketball games this season, does it seem that Rupp just doesn't have the same affect on visitors?

Today, around the nation, the crowds of other schools were definitely a factor. I think that the overwhelming support from the student body has a lot to do with this. You look around the floors of other schools and you see the young demographic on their feet. I do not see this at Rupp. Why do I see nothing but retired alumni doing nothing to inspire the players on the floor? There should be a memo given to everyone as they enter the arena that standing and noise are encouraged. The "e-RUPP-tion zone" just isn't big enough. Isn't this college basketball? There isn't much of a college atmosphere at Rupp Arena, looks more like a Lion's Club or a nursing home.

In conclusion, it's absolutely pathetic who gets to sit close to the action and show no emotion throughout the home season.

Are you Serious?

He's exactly right. Has been for years.

This was the only home loss of the season. Cat's win 90% of games played at Rupp.. So no, I don't think there is any home court advantage there.

You haven't watched many games huh?

I said the same thing for years about Louisville and Freedom hall. It is part of Kentucky Basketball state wide the older folks don't like the student section and they have all the money so they shuffle the rowdy students and fans off to the sides and make the best seats a place to see and be seen by the wealthy elderly and their kids.

Only every one for 25 years that I have been alive, plus attended every home game during my four years at UK. The crowd is great for a big game, but there is no consistency. Vanderbilt isn't a big game, but the crowd assumes a win so rarely gets loud. If Rupp consistently roared, it would be the most intimidating place in the world. For the most part, however, its just a pretty big building.

And maybe there isn't anything wrong with that, but that's how it is. Doesn't mean the fans aren't knowledgable, just means they aren't loud. When they aren't loud, they aren't intimidating.

I was going to say the same thing about Louisville. If you wanna be quiet and sit...go to church! The alumni association should be ashamed.

You said I haven't watched many games. I told you that I have. Why confused?

You have seen every game for 25 years?

Exactly!:thumb:

Every game that has been televised, yes. In person, about three per year and then all of them when I was a student. I'm probably not in the minority here.
