Rupp Arena: Homecourt ADVANTAGE?

Featured Replies

Problem with Rupp is 20% of the crowd is on AARP, 40 % is 30-50, then 40% is students.. most up in the bleachers who you can't hear. UK would benefit from having a smaller arena that is dominated by students around the court.. such as a FL.

UL, IU, and UNC all could be compared with Rupp as far as the seating and 'old folks.' Those schools all seem to do quite well at home also. Those teams don't win as often at home as UK does, but most would consider those schools to have a home court advantage.

Explain how decreasing the size of an arena that already sells out every game, in which they win 90% of their games, would benefit the school? That makes absolutely no sense.

Half of the UK games ive been to I thought I was at church... we need more students in the lowers.

Anyone who knows Rupp knows its not intimidating anymore. Yeah we will win most of our games but we always do well in the SEC. We almost annually anymore lose to our tough non conference opponent home.. aka a UNC or someone. You have to look at the big picture. There has been a lot of UK games this year.. that have been just boring down there. Ask around. Also we have been losing more than a few games at home the last few years.

Rupp Arena provides very little if any home court advantage for the Cats imo...I hate the way the seating is assigned at Rupp but it has been like that for 30 years now and it will never change...The only time half of the lower arena in Rupp Arena yells is when someone stands up in front of them.

History speaks volumes. You won't be able to name 5 other schools that win 90% of their games at home. If you don't like going to church, don't go.

As I stated before, if you don't like the place, don't go there and watch the games. No one is forcing you.

I love how you like to speak of history.. history does speak volumes.. we used to be elite.. you got me there! Sad thing is? Present day is: 1/20/2007.

History repeats itself. :thumb:

Only every one for 25 years that I have been alive, plus attended every home game during my four years at UK. The crowd is great for a big game, but there is no consistency. Vanderbilt isn't a big game, but the crowd assumes a win so rarely gets loud. If Rupp consistently roared, it would be the most intimidating place in the world. For the most part, however, its just a pretty big building.

I agree 100%. Just before Christmas UK played Santa Clara and Duke played Kent the same night. I remarked that the Duke fans acted as though they were playing North Carolina. The UK fans acted as if they were playing...well, Santa Clara.

If UK is not playing a ranked team, or Louisville, or Indiana, the fans do not create the home court advantage.

Are you Serious?

Wow Warrior I am actually very surprised that you like the way Rupp is right now. I mean I love UK basketball games and I still have a good time at the games, but the place for the most part is dead most of the time, and could be even ALOT more exciting place to play at...

So the answer to this problem is that we need more students in the gym?

They won't even pick up all of the tickets allocated to them now most of the time.
