January 20, 200719 yr So the answer to this problem is that we need more students in the gym? They won't even pick up all of the tickets allocated to them now most of the time. Maybe not more students in the gym, but more students by the court. And I bet you if there were more better seats, then there wouldn't be any at all really that dont get bought up by the students..
January 20, 200719 yr I think the best way to put this is that no matter you want to believe it or not. There needs to be some kind of change to Rupp. There are alot of people who also see what I do about Rupp not being as exciting as a place as other arenas. Now at Rupp with all the big money people it will be hard to get them all out and give all the seats to students. However they need to do something to get some more students by the court and just help out the atmosphere of Rupp and the perception. I think if anything they should put another Erupption zone behind the other basket, or get rid of where the erruption zone is at now, and put it on the one sideline that the camera will be facing. This way you have students by the court and more full length of the court, instead of stuck just on one side of the court, and it will also look better for recruits to see on tv..
January 20, 200719 yr I'l agree that the eRupption zone is pretty voicterous, but there are 3 or 4 other lower level sections of students in the gym that aren't much different that the other lower level patrons in the gym. So for those who claim that all of Rupp is quiet except for the students is not quite the truth.

Why bother if you're going to have to sit in crummy seats? For the money a college tuition costs these days, they probably feel cheated.

January 20, 200719 yr Paying tuition to go to school there entitles you to get your education, it doesn't entitle you to the best seats at sporting events unless you pay for them like everyone else... ... The reason the UK basketball team exist is because of the education system. If there was no kids going to college to get an education there would be no college sports. So I think the kids should be entitled to have ATLEAST more better seats to watch THEIR own school that they pay money to go to play...
January 20, 200719 yr Why do people buy tickets that the students don't use if they're that bad? Because that is a chance for some fans who dont get to see a live UK game at home a chance to go to a game, and it wouldn't matter to them. I know before I came to UK I was the same way I would just want to go because it something many people dont get to experience and that is going to a UK game. However for students they have plenty of chances throughout the year to go to games. So instead of sitting in rows ZZ, they usually decide sometimes to just wait and take their chances at the next lottery and get better seats hopefully...

Been through this...UK students don't use all their tickets...and again, they are not entitled to the best seats, that's just a simple fact you fail to see... Actually, UK win percentage at Rupp has gone down since the eRupption Zone was started, I say it hurts the team and move those students back to upper arena...

BRJB is correct and I believe, this was even discussed considerably on another thread, regarding seating and student seating. Correct me if I'm wrong but don't the students get different ticket prices or a reduced cost. Until someone with clout, mandates seating changes by the Athletics department, you will see a considerable age difference in the lower deck, than at some other arenas. At the same time, a home court advantage it only as good as the product on the floor and the opponents, you are playing. SEC is a tough place and UK's record at RUPP, is not too shabby.

Actually, UK win percentage at Rupp has gone down since the eRupption Zone was started, I say it hurts the team and move those students back to upper arena... Nobody is entitled to any seats. January 20, 200719 yr Why do people buy tickets that the students don't use if they're that bad? Because they dont know any rich people with lower seats:D
January 20, 200719 yr The thing is I really dont care as much about students having better seats, than creating more of an exciting atmosphere that maybe could help out the team more. I mean if the people down in the lower areana would yell and be mroe into the game then I would be all for it. If anything I think we should just take the actual seats away from the people down in the lower arena and just have it to where they have to stand the whole game. So this might make them actually want to show emotion some more since they are already standing. Or if they still are quiet, then atleast it looks better on tv having all kinds of people standing...

Uh, the tickets to all sporting events are sold and people are entitled to the seats they pay for.

Unless Geritol, offers an energy drink for sale in the concessions, I don't see some lower arena patrons, getting up and yelling, much less more. Excellent idea though.
