No clue, but I don't think you could find 5 teams that have won over 85% of their home games over the past 10 years.

Aren't you supposed to win at home anyways? I am not sure if you ever played, but the plane or bus ride can often factor in. The point people are making is Rupp is not as intimidating as it used to be.

The thread topic is whether Rupp provides UK a home court advantage. I, along with facts, say it does.

For the most part the Rupp Crowd is pretty lifeless unless we're playing a marquee name or highly ranked opponent. I went to the Houston game and, while the crowd was pretty much lifeless, they did crank it up in the last 2 or 3 minutes and it noticeably rattled the Houston players. I definitely think they helped UK pull that game out, which brings me to my point. I think the Rupp Crowd can still crank it up at times, and it can really affect a team like Houston that doesn't play at Rupp often and hasn't been exposed to that type of atmosphere. SEC teams, on the flipside, play there more often, so they know what to expect. They are much more likely to maintain their composure when the crowd decides to stand up in cheer for a couple of minutes...

 

...it might be different if we could keep the place rocking for a large part of the game, but that just isn't happening anymore.

As for UK winning 90% of their homes games, they should. They're probably as good or better than 95% of the teams that come into Rupp, so they should beat them.

 

Rupp is still a home-court advantage...just not as big as it once was nor as big as it should be, IMO.

So you're advocating that fans throw fruit at opposing teams when they visit Rupp? Wow.

 

Yep that is what I meant. Hopefully in the next few games, the three point cards will be replaced with tomatos (squishy, won't hurt as bad) then we can hum them at the opposing team as they warm up.

 

Or how about this promotion, 1st 250 fans are entitled to 2 oranges to throw at player of their choice.

 

Rupp is boring anymore unless it is a big game!!! I love going to games. I think the cwod stinks at times. For everyone who leaves the game with the outcome still in Jeopardy, shame on you and you should have your tickets revolked.

After reading through the thread, it got me thinking... when has Rupp been a big time intimidating place to play as many people have alluded to? :confused: As poor as the Erupption zone is, it was only introduced a few years back. If teams have ever been "scared" or whatever you want to call it, it was because the team was dominating.

I agree i think that Rupp right know is not intimidating at all. It used to be but i dont believe it was really rupp as much as it was that the teams were intimidating.I am for a bigger student section . the old people coming in with there walkers and setting next to the court just isnt intimidating to teenage kids. But other kids in there ears screaming and yelling right behind them as they throw the ball in is. UK needs a bigger student section.

Maybe we could have a throw back game and play one SEC game at memorial colusium and see how that affects everyone.
