Who is in line to be the next coach at CovCath?

Featured Replies

I think a reigning state champ is not a good fit for a first-time head coach. Too many expectations and too much at stake for the school. CCH needs to find a head coach with head coaching experience, not Roedig or Wirth.

That being said, I would love to see what the Def Co-ordinator (Haupman?) would do as head coach.

.

Wirth has head coaching experience.

This would be a great idea if he didn't go with Rodenberg. He came with Rodenberg and is leaving with him.

As is the rest of the staff he took into CCH.

I thought Nate Roedig and Barry Jones left under bad circumstances? Is this not true? Just asking!

Maybe some of the Covcath faithful will come up with some info at the Hall of Fame dinner Tuesday.

Very few names being circulated for such a high profile job.

I was under the same impression.

Wirth has head coaching experience.

Yes, my mistake, 3 yrs at Badin (2-8, 5-5, & 7-3).

Including Coach of the Year in the GCL North this year.

A lot has changed since then, IMO. I think their problem was mostly with Coach Ray & offensive coordinator Coach Hobbs. I'd imagine Coach Ray will still have SOME input on the decision, but obviously he did not have the final say in hiring Rodenberg, so I don't think he would be able to stop Nate or Barry from coming back.

I think the majority of Covington Catholic alumni would be happy with Nate being hired as the new head coach. The only problem is he does not have any HC experience.

Everyone keeps mentioning head coaching experience. How does a person get experience if they are not given the opportunity to be a head coach? It takes a good program to give a bright young man the chance to be a head coach to gain this experience. Beechwood's head coach had no head coaching experience and I think everyone is happy w/the results.

Well as an alumni who played under both of them, I wouldn't be thrilled with either being HC, one a lot more so than the other, and so would many other former CCH players who were under them. Further more I wouldn't want my kids playing for them either (even though that's far down the road.)

Pretty strong comment. People need to realize how their words & actions can hurt them down the road. Rubbing a player, parent, teacher, or administrator the wrong way WILL be remembered.

This job has been on the down low for the few weeks it has been open. Have interviews began?

I don't think so.

COACHING VACANCIES:

CovCath is the only school to set an application deadline. School athletic director Mike Guidugli said he will accept applications until Feb. 2.

I think most would say that CovCath isn't the program to give these bright young men their first taste. Is that unfortunate? Maybe, but I don't see it changing.
