I seriously doubt Coach Reed is afraid of a whole lot. That’s funny! I do really look forward to see how South Oldham does with this new schedule. Should make them better for the postseason. As far as

  • I apologize for the false alarm but it will officially be announced tomorrow ?. I guarantee that. If not I will come on here and spill. I’m not at Liberty to say right now but I will say it is a forme

The Dragons have been rock solid for a decade or more under Reed. He's leaving the job in much better shape than he found it. They were 6-26 under the previous coach.  I consider this a great job

Guess he didn’t want that smoke of a new district. I know he said something about it being like the NFL, in a listerv email. He did get the short end of the stick on travel.

It now looks like Oldham County is in the exact same situation that Bullitt County was in last year....all 3 county high schools will have new coaches leading their programs this upcoming season.

This is a good job that has opened late. Will be interesting to see who actually applies.

Well let’s hope South Oldham ends up like Bullitt East.

How the pipeline? Aka youth program, Middle School? Or do they get picked off by Jefferson Co Schools or privates?

That's a good question. There are certainly a good number of Oldham County kids who end up at CAL, St. X, and Trinity, but I'm not sure how many of those kids start off in the Oldham County Youth Football League. CAL has a team in the Louisville Youth Football League, and then the grade schools in the Archdiocese have the Louisville Catholic Schools Athletic Association which I believe goes from 3rd through 8th grade. I've never seen a full list of which schools in the Archdiocese field teams, so I'm not sure if any of the Catholic schools in Oldham County and the other Kentucky counties surrounding Louisville have teams in the CSAA. @Tigerpride94 could obviously speak better to the CSAA info than I can, and @ColonelMike probably has a better grasp on the attrition rate from OCYF to the Jefferson County private schools.

Speaking from what I've seen in NKY with Cov Cath, the vast majority of the players on Cov Cath's high school team come up through the Colonel Youth Football program. I would probably guess that the number of kids who end up playing at Cov Cath after coming up in other NKY youth football programs is currently pretty close to the number of kids who come up playing in the Colonel Youth Football program and then end up playing high school ball in other NKY high schools.

There are many kids that live in Oldham County but go to Louisville private schools. Also, St. Mary's is close to Oldham County line.

South Oldham area is growing so numbers should continue to be good there.

Definitely wishing the best for Coach as he advances in his career!

I believe this is an amazing late opportunity for someone. 5A changes a bit but this could be a nice land!

Coach Reed has built a strong program and someone is going to take over a very good 5A program.

He compared the 5A West to the SEC West which is a pretty good comparison.

With this coming so late in the school year, is there anyone on staff that would be the pick to takeover?

Should he be scared of Scott, Woodford, Collins?

Hate to see him leave the coaching ranks.  South Oldham has had some really good teams under his leadership.  Just a step away a couple of times from a final's appearance.  With a shortage of coaches, I hate to see a good one leave.

As far as the pipeline goes there are a few good classes coming up in middle school from what I understand. I had been involved with OCYFL for years and it seems that recently several top kids went to private schools. Private school starters (lots of area schools have this situation). D1 recruits in some cases. Tough break for the Oldham schools. Still lots of talent that stays though!
Coach Reed - thanks for all your hard work in taking a good program and making them better! The expectations for the Dragons are far higher now! You did a lot for the players and the school and you’ll be remembered for the great coach that you are! Enjoy the extra time with that wonderful family of yours.
