In both cases there are receivers behind the LOS when the pass is thrown in the ground. I think there may be a specific rule for spikes.

They do this on literally every screen that is busted early. Throw it directly at the feet of the receiver who is always behind the LOS.

They blew the grounding call. 

Ball was snapped on the 19. it hit the ground at the 15. WR was on the 22. This wasn’t a screen. 

 

I haven't seen it mentioned in the thread but am I the only one that wasn't pleased with the Timeout after the short pass to Hurst with like 44 seconds left?

Was Perine not behind line of scrimmage?  If not, then lineman were downfield.  Plain and simple blown call in crucial moment of game.

I saw an interesting stat this morning for the regular season the Bengals o-line was ranked next to last is pass block efficiency.

He was out in front of the linemen on that play at the 22. The ball hits just short of the LOS. As bad as it hurts, it was called correctly it seems.

It's not a high frequency called foul, but it seemed clear in this case.

Looks like the NFL average I'd about 40 per year over the last 3 seasons.

I always thought that if the QB was hit it impacts whether grounding is called.  I think the refs were reminded that Burrow was firing passes into the ground to kill plays and they chose that time to make a call.  They were on alert for it.
