  • I'm sure most of BBN is convinced Billy Donovan is looking at horse farms or Brad Stevens is giving up his front office job with the Celtics.

  • Y'all can have Kenny Payne back then.

When does that stop anything in college athletics?

I do not understand the thinking “Who else could we get?”. Why does it have to be a big name hire, or a guy who had one or two good years at a non-basketball school, I.e. Billy G? Why can’t it be a young hotshot assistant coach? Roy Williams did pretty good for himself, Bill Self still tearing it up, Coach K did alright, and there has to be more examples. Plus Cal isn’t getting fired, he is leaving on his own accord.

Roy Williams is an exception to the rule when it comes to an assistant coach getting a job at another blue blood program. That was what, 35 years ago? And I think Kansas's pending probation could have had something to do with the pool they were drawing from, but someone can correct me on that if I am wrong. Bill Self (Tulsa and Illinois) and Coach K (Army) were not assistants when they got their big boy jobs.

I think Musselman is the answer to the question. Oats appears to be on NBA radars, though it seems less coaches are coming up through college for NBA gigs. In fact, I am not sure any NBA head coach was a head coach in college.

I should’ve specified with K and Self. They weren’t household names per se when they got their life time job.

It's college basketball. How many household names are there? Self was kind of known as one of the next guys when he got his job. I hear you with K, but he made Duke into who they were, they were not exactly a blue blood institution.

Those are my next two if Pearl doesn't happen.

Wasn't he just fired at Arizona less than a year ago.

What in the hell is wrong with me? Jeez.

He's been gone so long now I guess I forgot about him.

Has been a while, over 10 years probably.

So you watched the game last night?

Billy Donovan or Jay Wright.

I didn't because of work (was score watching). That said, I watch very little college basketball - outside of UK - because it is brutal to watch as an NBA fan. Double brutal when UK stinks ?

It doesn't, but why would you want a coach that was just told to go away a year ago?
