A prime example of rushing to get something out there.  Nothing Skip said was wrong, but it wasn't the time to do it.  We all had such a helpless feeling last night.  I just think Skip hit Send without thinking if it was a good idea.

Media in the 21st Century.   Media outlets USED to triple check sources and get multiple confirmations before going to print or air with a story.   Now any yayhoo with a smart phone can send in a video and it goes on the air so someone can be first.  Being accurate no longer factors into the equation.  Somewhere, Walter Cronkite is rolling over in his grave.

Aside from the player's health and his family well being being the two most important things, the NFL is in a tough predicament with all these decisions. Even post-injury last night, people were hammering the NFL thinking they should just call off the game. In real time the official announcement to post-pone was just over an hour, it just felt like eons because we were watching each second on the clock tick. There are lot of moving parts with a multi-billion dollar industry that I do not pretend to understand. Depending upon how this all shakes out, I could see anything being on the table... potentially even cancelling all of next week's games.

I can't see canceling anymore games, I think that makes a bad situation for the NFL worse and it would mean the Bills and Bengals would have played 15 total games and the rest of the NFL 16 games.

This incident is why High Schools need quality athletic trainers, access to AED's, and why coaches need to be certified in CPR with an emergency action plan in place. While extremely rare, imagine something like this happening on a high school practice field and not having the capabilities to deal with it.

In Kentucky all coaches have to be trained yearly in first aid and CPR even if the schools have certified trainers on staff. Also all schools in Kentucky are required to now have AED's even elementary schools.

This hits very close to home for me the school that I was an assistant basketball coach at from the mid-80's until the mid 90's we actuality had a player collapse in the locker and die due to arterial defibrillation. I was not actually there that night due to my infant son being in the hospital but it really affected our coaching staff for years the head coach especially because it was his nephew who passed away and he never really was the same after that.

My best guess is that they don’t resume the game and that nothing goes into the record books.

I think your best guess is how it will end up shaking out.

Not for the past 42 years.  Requirement for being a lifeguard back in the day, then for my first job out of college at an alcohol and drug halfway house.

Not for the past 12 years for me.  Before that we had yearly CPR and AED training.

On CPR, I don't know what the standard is now but I know it changed a lot through the years and that always confused me.

I wonder how many BGPers are certified in CPR?

I am certified, when I was with Duke energy, we had classes every year by certified red cross trainer, now I'm part time at cvg, the police has a certified  trainer and we have class and pratice, I am also a high school coach  and where I coach,  I am required to have certification and in season I carry and an AED on the bus and in the dugout.

I heard a doctor/specialist speaking this morning. He said in these situations it is sometimes 3-4 days before they can do a full analysis and prognosis. They have to monitor the brain temperature and allow it to heal and that is why he is sedated. Often times they even cool the brain to help it with the healing. It is part of the healing process after a cardiac event like this. We probably will not know anything further today based on what he said and it might even be Thursday before we have a good evaluation and prognosis.

More so mean they would push back everything a week.

I was certified years ago, but I know that I would need a refresher now.  I understand that there are just chest compressions now to the song "Stayin' Alive" with 2 breaths later instead of the 4 at the beginning that I remember.

Sounds like a logistical nightmare.

I listened to a doctor on TV saying the same thing.

There is precedence for this (9/11), the bye week between the Super Bowl just goes away. I know we are in speculation mode still, but you have to question the psyche of the players - especially Buffalo's -  if there is no health determination made by the end of the week.

I can see that.  Not sure I would do it, but I can see that.
