Jeff Miller, NFL executive vice president of communications, public affairs & policy, said there has been no thought about how the league plans to address the unprecedented postponement when it comes to a future date. It won't be Tuesday. The Bills planned to fly home Monday night, although the league said some of Hamlin's teammates stayed behind to be with him.

"That's not the consideration right now," Miller said. "Our concern is for the player and his well-being. At the appropriate time, I'm sure that we'll have a conversation around the next steps regarding the game."

Which leads to all kinds of other stuff. Does everybody who bet on the game get a refund?   What about player incentives pursuant to contracts (games played/started, yards gained, tds, etc.).   Lots of trickle-down issues to sort out.

Technically nothing he said is wrong. 
 

But the optics are horrible.  It comes across as being concerned about the game and the standings and not the player.

I think the players should get an average of their other 16 games pursuant to their contract incentives.

I would imagine on the gambling you would either get a credit or a refund but maybe that stuff is covered in the fine print of the gambling agreement and it is something else.

I agree on all counts.

With that said, I am very interested in what the NFL decides.  I figure it will probably be a negative for the Bengals but all it will potentially do is change the seeding. All things considered I think it is something (the standings) that we all need to put behind us, move forward playing the hand we are dealt, and continue praying for Damar Hamlin, his family and friends.

Aside from the player's health and his family well being being the two most important things, the NFL is in a tough predicament with all these decisions. Even post-injury last night, people were hammering the NFL thinking they should just call off the game. In real time the official announcement to post-pone was just over an hour, it just felt like eons because we were watching each second on the clock tick. There are lot of moving parts with a multi-billion dollar industry that I do not pretend to understand. Depending upon how this all shakes out, I could see anything being on the table... potentially even cancelling all of next week's games.

All I've got to say about that, too soon, wouldn't be soon enough for Eric Deters.  

This incident is why High Schools need quality athletic trainers, access to AED's, and why coaches need to be certified in CPR with an emergency action plan in place. While extremely rare, imagine something like this happening on a high school practice field and not having the capabilities to deal with it.

It makes me feel icky to say this, but what Deters says is what I feared most when the report was given that the ambulance waited on Hamlin's mother.

I wonder how many BGPers are certified in CPR?

I kept my glass half full and figured they got a good heart rhythm and he wanted his mom with him.  I could see it either way, sadly we know which it was.  Though I still don't understand the delay.

If the cause is indeed Commotio Cordis - and that is purely speculation - I have heard or read that while very rare, it happens in youth baseball. Batted ball hitting the chest.

Not for the past 42 years.  Requirement for being a lifeguard back in the day, then for my first job out of college at an alcohol and drug halfway house. 

I was recently looking into CPR classes because of the baby, so I’ll definitely be following up on that now.
