Resurgent Flyers Get A Second Look At Top Ranked Redhounds

Records: Corbin (13-0) | Franklin County (8-5)

BGP Ranking: Corbin (#1 in 4A) | Franklin County (#10 in 4A)

Series History: Corbin leads 2-0 all-time

Table Setter: Better late than never, but Franklin County appears to be rounding into the form we expected when they debuted at #3 in the preseason rankings. The schedule has featured mountainous peaks coupled with valleys that bordered on subterranean. The first five weeks produced four losses against elite competition. A shutout defeat to Central and injuries to marquee players had relegated the Flyers to an afterthought in 4A.

Fast forward a few weeks and the schedule has revealed itself for what it was all along: ideal preparation for a deep playoff run. Having a healthy Kaden Moorman and Zach Claudio has thrust Franklin County back into the hunt with decisive wins over one loss Spencer County and unbeaten Warren East.

If it's hunting season, you know the Hounds are on the scent. They can smell that first state title in forty years. The top dogs of 4A are brimming with confidence following a two score victory over mighty Johnson Central and appear to be in a great place, both mentally and physically. The trio of Kade Elam (2,000 yards passing with 27 TDs/3 ints.), Cameron Combs (1,300 total yards/20 TDs), and Carter Stewart (951 yards receiving/20 yards per catch) key the offense. The defense had pitched six consecutive shutouts before JC broke the plane last week.

The two met in Week 3 with Corbin dealing the Flyers the first of three straight losses. Franklin County got big games from Moorman and Claudio but the Redhounds picked off four passes to aid in a three score win.

On the surface, Corbin is the clear favorite here. They're unbeaten, top ranked, and playing at home. But the Flyers are putting it together at the right time. And having seen Corbin once already is a benefit.

Expect a battle. Franklin County will bring it with them and the Hounds will be waiting.

Corbin is the big favorite as they should be and playing at home with a shot at the title within reach, but make no mistake this Franklin Co team is not the same team Corbin beat earlier this season.  The Flyers are healthy and the young players have really improved and have an edge about them.  This will be a hard fought and hard hitting game.  The Flyers will bring it next Friday.  This is what HS football is all about.  Hope both teams leave it on the field and stay injury free.  Let's go Flyers!

FC with the upset. Love the experience that sophomore class is getting. If Franklin County could’ve gotten the running back from GRC Kalen Washington to stay would’ve been icing on the cake for this class. They won the middle school 8th grade championship together.
