I don't see it - we lost to Huntington (the 6th ranked team in the nation ON THEIR FLOOR by 4) They got up in us and made us take a lot of bad shots, but we still had a chance to win in the 4th quarter. Coach Hicks had the team ready to play at a high level. I actually thought that we learned some lessons from this game that carried over into the Lex. Cath game.

 

We came back from down 8 in the 4th quarter to win by 9 AT Catholic. Coach Hicks made a heck of an adjustment in that one to let Mackey penetrate against the zone in that one when SC was having trouble scoring.

 

I personally would sit Jordan Lee on the bench every time he shot a 3, but that's just my opinion - I'm sure Coach Hicks has his too.

Do you no t understand John Boy. When you make a team work in the half court on thier end of the court that's not holding the ball. On top of the fact if you are regualrly scoring in the 70's haow is that possible. I guess your philosophy is to just fire up a shot no matter what it looks like in hopes of maybe getting an offensive rebound. Just ask former Louisville Eastern and Male coach Bryce Hibbard how sticky a Randy Ward defense can be as his Musketeers held Lou. Eastern to fourty some points in a holiday tournament win in 1996. This same Eastern team won the state title a year later against a Ft. Thomas Highlands team that narrowly escaped GC in the 1997 State Tourney quarterfinals. Ultimately your philosphy is based on a gross lack of knowledge, ask any coach who has played in the big games.

 

I dont think it takes a basketball genuis to understand that Coach Ward would not give his players enough freedom to develope their skills. He had several potiental D-1 one players that never got a look because of his style. You cant get any seriuos looks from a D-1 school if you average 12 or 13 points a game. Plus if I recall it was a crime to break somebody down off the dribble. It was all about posting up and passing the ball around the perimeter until the center got open and you could enter the ball. I remember boo's every game because they would hold the ball for several minutes each time they had the ball. This isnt Defense it is limiting the other teams tips. It was extremly boring to watch and you had 6' 5" gaurds like Griffith and Sutton, and Bird Tackett that had the ability to live a dream of playing D-1 but never got the oppertunity because of the style of play. Give me the best of both worlds. Enough freedom to develope skills and enough tempo to keep the fans interested. I dont want a coach that controls every trip up the floor just so he can be apart of the game. I want my players to be able to do some decision making on their own. I dont think 4 Region Championships is very impressive in 20 years with the talent that has came through at Greenup. Check out Roger Zornes Record compared to Ward's with about the same talent level. :D :fight:

Some from the 16th Region: Ashland would be real tough to say over there storied history. However one would have to say Paul Patterson in his five years at Ashland 5 regional championships an undefeated record in the 16th region. Boyd Co. Roger Zones, Russell Marvin Mederith, Greenup Co. Randy Ward, East Carter Charles Baker, Rowan Co. Tim Moore, and Lewis Co. Gary Kidwell. Just to name a few.
