10th Region Tournament at Holmes?

Why can’t the 37th save themselves a trip?

Here is my very old school, yet very honest answer.

Just as the heart of Country Music still beats in Luke the Drifter, so does the heart of the 10th Region still beat in the Mason County Fieldhouse.

Disrespect of the past, and being totally selfish with no solidarity with the remainder of the 10th Region would be a good place to start.

Some of us have worked very hard to be good citizens of the 10th Region over the years, and others of us obviously, simply don't care.

So it shouldn’t be played in Moco or at GRC either? I understand tradition. But each district gets to choose where they want to host the region. And while The Fieldhouse is a fine place to play, I have hated making that drive out there almost every year (and it seems like it rains every time). If the 37th wants to host it in their backyard one every 4 years, it’s their right to do so.

Until one of our 37th District member school builds a facility liken to MoCo or GRC, worthy of hosting the tournament, then no, I believe that Mason County Fieldhouse should remain the viable option.

Nobody is saying it isn't a viable option. Again, it's just nice to be able to play a region close to home every now and then.

Well, let's bring the sweet sixteen from Rupp to Holmes or BB&T so the 37th won't have to drive to Lexington.

Bummer, can't. Has to be held at a site big enough to hold the average attendance. Luckily for the 37th, Holmes is plenty big to hold the usual 10th region tournament crowd though.

Quarter-finals, yes.

Semi-finals, doubtful.

Finals, no chance.

Is this no chance at Holmes capacity being big enough for the 10th region tourney in these instances? Those numbers are public record and it is definitely big enough.

The “public record” numbers are for the number of tickets sold, right?

The semifinals is usually the most attended.  If it was a Campbell, Mason, GRC, Harrison semifinals, you would have to have split sessions.

The KHSAA list past regional attendance records on their sites. Some years, the 10th region boys has no entry and the KHSAA has not updated that list since 2018, but here are some numbers for you all to crunch. Below is the year, where the event was located and highest nights attendnance.

2006- Mason Co. 3,148

2007- Mason Co. 3,285

2008- Montgomery Co. 2,365

2009- NKU- 5,698

2010- Mason Co. 3,147

2011- Mason Co. 2,739

2012- Montgomery Co. 1,362

2013- Mason Co. 1,765

2014- Mason Co. 2,807

The 10th region has no entry for boys basketball after 2014. Let's break it down.

1. The lowest attended night in any of the regional tournaments was in Montgomery Co. The highest, by far, was held in NKY.

2. The average highest night attendance in these years in 2924, Holmes holds 3,000. Also, depending on COVID numbers they may not even approach this number.

3. Average highest night at Montgomery- 1863, highest at Mason Co. 2815.

Can we put the argument that attendance will be down solely due to location? Can we stop worrying that Holmes won't hold the crowd?

And you’re probably right, it would be big enough because no one would go!

No one was going to go when it was held in NKY in 2009 either...

It's the 10th region and basketball, it will be attended.

If we're worried about no one attending the numbers above scream that MoCo should forfeit their next rotation and have it at the Fieldhouse.
