Beatty did everything at Trinity.

15 State Titles, multiple back to back or 3- peats, even a 4 peat. Multiple undefeated seasons. And a "national" championship.

Wallace is good, but I'd pump the brakes on any goat talk in the highest class. 

It's Beatty and no one else is even close. Wallace has done a good job but he Trinity is/was just under a different level than everyone else. It is interesting to see where Trinity goes from here. They have some talented sophomores but not enough on the line to have the same dominance as they have experienced in the past. Obviously still a major contendor but just not as strong as last years team.

Beatty may or may not be the goat. Lots of good coaches in the state of Kentucky. Not everybody can be given the resources that Trinity has.

At BGHS his record was 254-41.

So, who would be your top coaches? Since Wallace and Beatty, in your opinion, are good coaches but are only considered top coaches because of the schools they coached.

It is hard to have a best coach ever discussion without mentioning Phillip Haywood.

I believe old Dudley Hilton won championships at Bell Co and Bourbon Co. And no one has suggested the BGP icon of icons..... CHUCK SMITH.

As @ChiefSmokesaid, it is really hard to evaluate between different eras.  With that said, what Coach Haywood and Coach Beatty had done are just remarkable careers.  In addition to that, all the great programs around the state you think of as having good football teams, had/have great coaches so they should be considered.  I personally don't know them all so its hard for me to judge that.

But concerning Kevin Wallace, what I personally know is a coach that deserves to be considered in the best coaches category, where he falls in that is open to debate.

He has now won 6 state championships (5 at BG and 1 at X).  Of those 6, 2 of them IMO were when he didn't have the best team.  So if I were to make an all-time list, I'd want to know how many of the championships did he win when he didn't have the best team.  To me, that solidifies that the coaching staff made calls and reads and etc to earn the win.  And that's not to say the other championships that were/are won the coaches aren't responsible, but when you don't have the best team and still win, that stands out to me.

For full clarity, I obviously feel Male was the favorite in this years 6A game and X still won.

I also feel John Hardin was a "little" better team than BG in 2012.  That was the original hook-n-ladder game for the Purples and John Hardin had Jason Elam and other very good players.

Great Coach with a lot left in the tank.

 

With that said, he still has a lot to accomplish to even go visit Kentucky's Mount Rushmore:

Bob Beatty- The King

Philip Haywood- The Legend and Mr. More with Less

Dale Mueller- The Former King

Mike Yeagle- The Small Market Monster

 

 

Right now I would say Wallace doesn't even have the key to the Executive Suite to even mingle with the Morris Family, Glaser, and Harp.

 

I do think you can put him in the "Elite" Tier currently. Others residing in that tier:

I was at that John Hardin game. BG stole that game, haha. Hook-N-Ladder for the TD, then to go for 2 and the win on what was a freezing cold night too. It's the best game I've ever seen in person.

Hard to argue with Beatty's resume, especially when he has done it at the highest level and his Finals record is so ridiculous. For my money he is the King.

With that said, it is equally hard to argue against Philip Haywood's ability to do more with less. We are talking a Public County School in a coal mining community in rural Appalachia that he has built into a powerhouse! He has taken that program to the State Finals in four different decades.

Lot of good names here! I got this started for a great discussion and it worked! Many deserving candidates.  Kevin is a great coach and I just wonder what will be said when he is finished?  Haywood is still going strong also!  

Jack Morris was 254-  50 at Mayfield. Was coach of the decade in the 70’s and 80’s.
