If people can’t see the real reason why Perry was fired (1st coach to have 6 strait losing season) then there’s no hope. And if a coach is pushed away from this job over he said she said gossip , he’s not much of a coach IMO.

Truth! All I know is, this has been the wildest coaching search I’ve ever seen, so much speculation, names brought up that haven’t even been contacted or even know it’s open for that matter ?, hopefully we see something happen in the next week or so, so this thread can be put to rest. 

A little bit off topic, but what ever happened to Terry Yeast that used to coach Harrodsburg before it combined with Mercer? Wonder if he’d have interest? Always thought he was a great coach.

Mason is an administrator and not coaching anymore. McPhersons son is in middle school and not on the HS team and Bottom son is a little league player. There was only one coach in the HS staff this past season that had a son on the team and he coached JV while the son played varsity. I do agree with you that if the man can coach who cares if he has a kid on the team. Bottom at the middle school has 3 parents that help him and they do a find job coaching.

Also I get what you are saying and I agree. However the BC deal is a bit different as with all the guys you mentioned at BC most if not all were established coaches before their kids were playing football. Again though I agree if the guy can coach who cares if his kid is a player.

Bubby McPherson will be a freshman in high school this upcoming football season. Jalen coached him in middle school and his dad is on the high school staff. Matt Bottoms son is going to be in 6th grade this coming season I believe. And I could have sworn Coach Mason coached his son as well.

admin dont coach at BC and he has been a admin for a few years now. The thing is still that

I agree with everything you are saying other than Bill Mason as admin do not coach in Boyle. However they were all established coaches without their kids being on the team. Right now the discussion is about hiring a parent who wasn't a coach on the team. While I agree with your assessment of letting the man coach you are not comparing apples to apples. Also 6th grade kids play little league in Boyle also.

One constant I will always see, is everything ends up being about how Boyle County does things… every team in the area strives to be them… ?‍♂️ They have built something really special there.

Because Boyle invest in their programs from little league all the way to high school. You have to build from the bottom up if you ever want to be successful.

That all sounds good to me but there were several programs doing things the same way long before Boyle started. 

That's the problem to me. Everyone is chasing "Boyle County" instead of fixing the problems and worrying about themselves. Whoever gets Garrard needs to worry about building up Garrard and not chasing Boyle.

I am not saying John Hodge is the right guy by any means. 

Since I saw his name mentioned, I will say this about him.

When Hodge had an elite RB and momentum behind him he did some pretty impressive things at Bourbon County. In fact, if Belfry wasn't in their Semi-State he may have won a State Title.

Garrard certainly has an elite RB on their roster... in fact I would say they have a guy with more raw talent than anyone Hodge had at Bourbon. 

Is that the right hire big picture or even reason to think Hodge would come there? Absolutely not... but I could see at least some rapid early success if he did.

Interesting the comments on Boyle.... I've never thought of it as a Boyle blueprint. The blueprint comes from a school of thought, group of coaches, going back a long time. Of that, group, Chuck Smith was the most influential and yes, that plan exploded at Boyle, with a ton of hard work.  That blueprint has been applied a bunch of places and has been successful, even if not winning a state title. But, definitely making those programs better. 

Love to see the interest in Golden Lion football. Best of luck to their kids and new coach, whoever he turns out to be!

I remember when Hodge was the middle school Coach For Garrard, he was there for one year and claimed a salt River conference title, if I’m not mistaken the only time Garrard won the middle school title, of course he had some good kids, but I think that speaks to volume of what kind of coach he is, I’ve always thought he would be a good choice, he did very well at bourbon in my opinion, not sure if he would be interested or not, very intriguing to say the least, whoever it is, I hope it’s someone who decides to stay and change the culture of the program from top to bottom, because I really think that’s what needs to be done, a lot of folks may use MQ and GC as a stepping stone to a bigger job, which is not what they need.
