Already knew this, no surprise. I think this job will be harder to fill then people will imagine, apparently parental influence is making a lot of folks shy away from it, if you look at GC from every sport, their is a lot of parental influence, most coaches just want to be left alone and run the program.

They just talked last night so not sure how you already knew this. The job almost got accepted and it wasn’t far off. There’s plenty of parents that coach around the area. If I’m not mistaken Boyle County has 3 parents on the staff for football. If the parents can coach I’m not sure what the big deal is. Montice Quisenberry is an outstanding coach and leader and he’s the only parent that comes to mind on the previous GC football staff.

I only know of 1 that has a kid on the team and he has been coaching for years.

Mason,Mcphearson, and Bottoms with the middle school. That’s 3 off the top of my head. My point is that it doesn’t matter if you’re a parent. If you can coach you can coach. It’s not just football…. I agree Montice is a great coach and to be honest I really thought he should of been offered the job to begin with, the very first person, but who im I? I know nothing apparently ? anyways, should be a fun search.

I was called crazy in another forum topic so why not this one.  I do not believe it will be hard to fill.  They have a very good bit of interest and I would not count out anybody right now.  Parents are not screwing things up as of now.  Most decent coaches could care less about parental involvement.  If they keeps them from taking the job, I doubt you want them anyway.  The job has not been open for a full month yet.  Close but not yet.

Mason does not coach anymore, McPherson’s son is in Middle School and Bottom’s is the middle school coach and his son is in elementary school.

Mason coached this year. Jalen McPherson coaches middle school . Deon McPherson coaches high school. His son will be a freshman. Matt Bottoms son will be in middle school this upcoming season. Again that’s more than I can think of parents on the GC football staff. I brought that up because apparently some people on this thread think Garrard athletics is just coached by parents but can’t elaborate on who. The high school basketball coach is Brandon Cooper. His son plays. So I’ve named two parents that coach at Garrard County off the top of my head. And again, having family coach you isn’t always a bad thing. I’m pointing out that there’s teams all around the area that have family involved in some way either through middle school or high school.

I didn’t say it was a bad thing, all I’m saying is some coaches may shy from it, ESPECIALLY since it was passed around the town that the only reason Perry got fired was because of a parent, which IS NOT TRUE, but not everyone knows that, and I feel like people could lose some interest because of that, even though it isn’t true. Just my opinion. Everyone is entitled to an opinion regardless, I hope they pick the right person regardless! It isn’t always bad to be coached by family your right, but It’s not always the best either.
