Fresh off the Press!!

Pikeville will travel to Letcher County to take the Cougars this Friday. Pikeville was unable to find a matchup last week in the Pike County Bowl. They was slated to play Bourbon County but Covid came into play. Pikeville did play in week 1 against Paintsville where they won 43-21. Letcher County Central though did play last week and picked up its 2nd win of the season over Davy Crockett (TN) 26-24. They also have a win over Shelby Valley.

Who wins this matchup? Does Pikeville move to get its 2nd win of the season? Does Letcher County Central add win number 3?

This is a GREAT pickup for both teams, and potentially a sneaky good game this week. Pikeville gets a top 10 4A opponent that could prove hugely beneficial for the Panthers when the RPI rolls out, and Letcher gets a big upgrade in competition from Pike Central to the #1 team in 1A. It's a win-win.

I'll take Pikeville, because I think they're potentially that good, but don't be surprised if LCC pushes them to the brink or even pulls out the win. Pikeville's only had the one game so far.

Made the trip since our game got Covid. Two early observations:

1) Letcher County Central has a gorgeous facility. Not many better in Kentucky.

2) Isaac McNamee is worth the price of admission at quarterback for Pikeville. Three touchdown passes already.

Pikeville up 21-7, almost halftime.

Letcher with a late second quarter drive but was picked off and returned almost length of the field. McNamee to Grant Scott touchdown pass makes it 28-7 at halftime for Pikeville.

Pikeville is very solid. Of course McNamee, but running backs Blake Birchfield and Zac Lockhart have both impressed. Lots of weapons.

Letcher solid as well. Really nice team. Quarterback Carson Adams is very nice and wide receiver Nicholas Haning has made several nice catches. Problem for Letcher is they can’t establish the run which had made them a little one-dimensional.
