Titletown Showdown

Danville enters this matchup with a 2-0 record and Boyle comes in at 1-1. The Admirals are coming off of a 13-7 win over Lincoln County and Boyle enters off their first home loss in 33 games courtesy of LCA by a score of 35-28.

Danville is ranked #4 in 2A and Boyle ranked #4 in 4A. The last meeting between these two was in 2019 with Boyle winning 59-0.

The Mark Peach era at Danville is off to a somewhat surprising 2-0 start considering the turmoil last week regarding an assistant coach that was let go. The Danville defense was able to shut down a Lincoln County offense that amassed 500+ yards against Somerset the week prior and has scored a touchdown in each of their first two games. The defense has faced two teams that The offense on the other hand has to find something outside of senior RB Caleb Burns. Being that one dimensional will not bode well for Danville.

Boyle’s first home loss since 2016 has the Rebel faithful missing former DC Jeff Hester. LCA was able to rush for 465 yards and 5 TDs against a Rebel defense that has historically been very stingy against the run. The defense needs to find its ground and quick because the schedule this season is the toughest Boyle has seen in years. Offensively Boyle looked much better in week 2 than it did In week 1. They were able to move the ball effectively against the LCA defense with the only blunder being a late 4th quarter INT that ended up costing the Rebels a chance at tying the game. Sophomore Avery Bodner took most of the snaps at RB vs LCA seemingly winning the RB battle, while Cole Lanter continued to shine at WR. QB Jagger Gillis confined to be efficient through the air and provided some hard nosed yardage with his legs.

The Danville defense hasn’t faced an offense as balanced as Boyle’s yet this season. The DBs will be put to the rest for the first time this year. I look for the Boyle D to improve their poor tackling and make it a focus to limit the yards by Burns and force the ADS to beat them through the air. Can Danville pull another shocker and regain the bragging rights of Titletown or will Boyle continue their reign?

I believe, for non-district games like this one, the ball is basically in Boyle County's court since Danville is the team that is unable to play this week, as originally contracted. Boyle County ca

  • I know there are contributing factors for canceling in both 2020 and 2021, but I really hope the Danville/Boyle series doesn't go away.

I don't think the rivalry will end. Danville can't afford to lose that game. That's where they make there money because it's always a huge crowd.

I think Boyle gets the win it what could be a competitive game. I think Boyle offense will carry the day.

Before Friday night I would say Boyle.  But after watching them show an overall lack of defense at all, I will say this will a tough game for them.  I hate to say it, but don't county Danville out just yet.

The Boyle I watched Friday is a long way from competing for the top spot in the state.  They might not even will the district.  The defense they showed Friday will have no chance against Lexington Catholic.

Defense wins championships, and Boyle doesn't have it.

Missing Jeff Hester?

I'm not sure Boyle is a serious threat to get to commonwealth either.  But I think they win this one big.  I'll take the Rebels by 4 scores.

Who is in Boyle's district? The KHSAA site just shows all of the teams in each Class...

Lexington Catholic, Bourbon County and Anderson County.

So, Boyle has no chance against a team in Lexington Catholic who throws the ball 75% of the time because they lost by one TD to a team that only threw it 3 times an entire game? They gave up 460 yards rushing and catholic hasn't had a serious rushing attack in 20 years minus a dual threat QB here and there. Don't get me wrong the Boyle defense was lacking Saturday night but to say BC has no chance is just absurd.

Boyle will be fine. They lost a ton of talent last couple years and is a work in progress. Haddix is a coach and they will be there at playoff time. That said it seems Ads is better than most think. Athletes are there but they have to get consistent and improve every week to compete for their district. Once they can sync offensively they may be a threat. I say Boyle 28 Danville 20.

Boyle comfortably.

So far on the season, Lex Cath has had 75 rush attempts and 52 pass attempts.  They have a big bodied running back in Walker Hall, that has ran for 195 of LC's 313 total rushing yards.  They also have big, physical receivers.

And yes, when you let a team that you know is going to run the ball over and over and you can't stop them, then there is a problem.  How do you expect to stop a team that has a balanced offense?

All I am saying is there needs to be some MAJOR changes on the defense for Boyle to even win their district.  If Friday's defense shows up against LC, then Boyle doesn't have a chance to win that game.

I think Covid just got this game.

I'm hearing Danville in Covid Protocol and Boyle looking for a game this Friday.

I agree with all of what you said... but you gotta understand we are talking about BC, a gold standard in 4A along with Central, Corbin and JC. With Boyle's experience coaching staff, they will coach up their players and be ready for the grind of the season. Will they win district or Lex Catholic? Too early to say and that game is not till October 8th, so I am sure both teams, along with Bourbon Co and Anderson Co will improve.

Pulaski will be open if Lincoln has to quarantine. I hope not.
