Much of the week 6 schedule was decimated by COVID and/or inclement weather.  This week's weather looks even worse, with heavy snowfall expected early.  Let's take a look at the games that actually did get played; including a big stumble for our number one.

1).  Clark County (11-2, 7-0 region, 4-0 district, .644 RPI). 48-84 loss at Frederick Douglass.

Previous rank - 1

This week - vs. Madison Central, at Madison Southern, vs. Pendleton County.

The Cardinals would just as soon forget their visit to Freddy D, as they were the recipients of a 35-point thumping.  Poor shooting from everywhere (33% from the field, 4-11 from the line) didn't help matters, and Jerone Morton can't return soon enough.  Jared Wellman led the Cards in scoring with 17, while Stanley Smothers scored 11 and grabbed a team-high 13 rebounds.  Let's see if this was a "one-off" game before pronouncing doom - one more and we could have a new number one.  Two games against Madison County competition before finally revisiting the 10th against Pendleton County.

2).  Montgomery County (8-2, 6-1 region, 2-1 district, .634 RPI). 79-73 win at Bourbon County.

Previous rank - 2

This week - at Paris, vs. Boyd County, vs. West Jessamine, vs. Mason County.

The Indians won their only game of the week, a close one against 40th District foe Bourbon County that saw Hagan Harrison erupt for 32 points, while Rickey Lovette (20 points on 10-12 shooting) and JT Woosley record double-doubles.  The Mason County game should provide a litmus test as far as MoCo's second-place regional ranking.  The RPI gap between Montgomery and Clark is shrinking.

3).  Mason County (10-3, 4-2 region, 2-0 district, .615 RPI) -  82-76 win vs. Bracken County.

Previous rank - 3

This week - vs. Pendleton County, at Scott, at Nicholas County, at Montgomery County.

As was the case with many teams, Mason only played one game this week, a Saturday 82-76 win over 39th District Bracken County.  Leading scorer Terrell Henry recorded 14, but was given a huge boost by Nate Mitchell with 32 and Philip Bierley with 17.  The week 7 four-game schedule is ambitious, with three road games in four days.

4).  Campbell County (10-4, 6-2 region, 2-1 district, .597 RPI) - 74-86 loss vs. Highlands, 82-70 win at Ryle, 73-5 win at Boone County.

Previous rank - 4

This week - at Holmes, vs. vs. Cooper, vs. Beechwood.

The Camels were one of the teams fortunate enough to play three week 6 games.  Dane Hegyi led four in double figures with 16, while Ayden Hamilton and Eric Davie each grabbed 10 boards.  CC went 52% from the field and 18-21 from the line (often a hallmark of Campbell teams) against Ryle, with Hamilton scoring 32 and Garrett Beiting notching 23.  Hamilton, Hegyi, Beiting and Davie all reached double figures in the Boone game.  Three tough games for the Camels this week; all against out-of-region competition.

5).  Scott (7-6, 2-0 region, 2-0 district, .567 RPI) - 67-78 loss at Walton-Verona, 65-68 loss vs. Lakota West (OH).

Previous rank - 3

This week - vs. Pendleton County, vs. Mason County, at Robertson County.

Cameron Patterson scored 25, Grant Profitt 15 and Nolan Hunter with 14 and 10 at Walton.  No details on the close loss vs. Lakota West other than Scott went into the 4th quarter with a double-digit lead but couldn't hang on.  Back to the 10th region (finally, Scott always plays a NKY-heavy schedule) this week.  If Robertson is back at full strength, the game scheduled for the 19th should be a good one.

6).  Robertson County (7-3, 4-2 region, 0-1 district, .548 RPI) - no games is week 6 (none scheduled).

Previous rank - 6

This week - at Boone County, All-A tournament Harlan first game), vs. Scott.

The Black Devils are scheduled to play Harlan in the first round of this season's All-A tournament at EKU; maybe the weather will cooperate.  Hopefully top two scorers Justin Becker (26.3 ppg, 65% fg) and Sebastian Dixon (13.2 ppg) are fully recovered from ankle injuries.

7). Harrison County (7-7, 4-4 region, 1-1 district, .496 RPI) - 79-44 win at Paris, 51-57 loss to Franklin County.

Previous rank - 7

This week - at Nicholas County, vs. Frederick Douglass, at Augusta

James Soard and Clay Carpenter with 23 and 20, while JD Kendall chipped in 14 against the Hounds - with Carpenter adding 10 boards.  No stats yet from the 6-point loss to a solid Flyers squad.  I'm looking forward to the Augusta game.

8).  Bishop Brossart (5-5, 3-2 region, 0-1 district, .498 RPI) - all games cancelled due to COVID.

Previous rank - 8

This week - vs. Simon Kenton, at Lloyd, vs. Highlands.

No games in week 6 as the Mustangs have been sidelined by the virus.  Three tough games are on this week's schedule as Carson Schirmer works his way back into form.

Throw the next five teams in a hat as far as rankings go.

9). Augusta (8-3, 5-2 region, 3-1 district, .546 RPI) - 80-72 win vs. Nicholas County.

Previous rank - 10A

This week - vs. Fleming County, vs. St. Patrick, vs. Harrison County.

Chasse Archibald paced the Panthers with 23 in the win over Nicholas County.

10).  Bracken County (6-12, 2-9 region, 0-3 district, .457 RPI) - 61-63 loss vs. Calvary Christian, 76-82 loss at Mason County.

Previous rank - 10B

This week - at Newport, vs. Nicholas County, at Fleming County, vs. Dixie Heights.

The Polar Bears lost a pair of close ones last wee, falling to Calvary by a bucket and Mason County by 6.  Blake Reed with his usual 25 ; then went off for 39 against the Royals.  I believe that I made a fearless prediction in last week's review that Bracken would show well in this one; and my arm grows tired from patting myself on the back.  How do they get ranked above Calvary?  The strong showing against Mason, and the luck of the drawing out of the hat.

11).  Calvary Christian (9-5, 2-3 region, 0-2 district, .495 RPI) - 63-61 win at Bracken County, 60-38 win at Whitefield Academy.

Previous rank - 13

This week - at Eminence, at Dayton, at Bellevue, at St. Patrick.

You might give Calvary a little grief over their scheduling, but they have a knack for winning the games they should and always seem to throw in a couple of surprises.  They have a trio of consistent scorers, Luke Ruwe at 16.8 (20 against Whitefield) Ethan Milling (17 against Bracken) at 13.9, and Logan Hinkle at 11.6.

12). Pendleton County (6-4, 3-2 region, 2-0 district, .488 RPI) - 42-39 win at Bourbon County, 48-57 loss to Newport Catholic.

Previous rank - 12

This week - at Mason County, at Scott, vs. St. Patrick, at Clark County.

Pendleton pulled out a close one on the road at Bourbon County on Tuesday by a bucket, with Tredyn Thomas the only double-figure scorer at 20 on 8-11 scoring.  Thomas and Braydon Kidwell each with 17 in the NCC loss.  Weather threatens at least the first two games next week.

13).  Bourbon County (2-7, 2-4 region, 0-3 district, .449 RPI) - 39-42 loss to Pendleton County, 73-79 loss to Montgomery County.

Previous rank - 9

Parker Estes with 14 and 7 vs. the Wildcats; but no stats yet to report from the MoCo game.  If they become available in the next day or two, I'll update.

14). Nicholas County (4-11, 1-6 region, 0-1 district, .382 RPI) - 58-42 win vs. Greenup County, 58-64 loss at Model, 72-80 loss at Augusta.

Previous rank - 15

This week - vs. Harrison County, at Bracken County, vs. Mason County.

Dalton Davenport had a big week 6.  A team-leading 19 (5-9 from distance) in the win over Greenup, a 21/10 double-double against Model, and 30/8 at A-town.  Brady Switzer scored 59 points in the three games.

15).  Paris (1-8, 0-6 region, 0-3 district, .406 RPI) - 44-79 loss to Harrison County.

Previous rank - 14

This week - vs. Montgomery County, at Bourbon County.

The Greyhounds were unceremoniously dumped in their only week 6 game at the hands (hooves?) of Harrison County in a 35-point loss.  Ricquiece Washington scored 17, but was held to 4-21 shooting.  It doesn't get any easier for Coach Baker's squad with a pair of 40th District tilts this week.

16).  St. Patrick (1-13, 0-6 region, 0-1 district, .302 RPI) - no week 6 games.

Previous rank - 16

This week - at Augusta, at Pendleton County, vs. Calvary Christian.

The Saints were the latest COVID casualty of the season, missing all games last week and this Monday's Ripley (OH) contest.
