I still think football will be normal in the fall. The NFL will soon announce they will proceed with full stadiums and that will start the domino effect IMO.

You can't have fans at a college or NFL game and expect social distancing to occur. It just won't happen. IMO they will add a "attend at your own risk" to the back of your ticket and let everybody in as normal. There is entirely too much that has to be done in order to prepare a stadium for less than full capacity while trying to enforce social distancing. There's too much money involved for teams/schools to take on that task.

We all know it's about the money. If most or all states are beyond "Phase 3" when football starts, teams and schools aren't going to just leave seats empty.

I don't know. I think schools will be more leery to open it up to the fans because they aren't bottomless pits of money unlike the NFL & NCAA. Plus, there are minors we're dealing with there.

 

I really feel for the decision-makers either way. Just a no-win situation regardless of what you choose. I wish people would be more understanding of that.

If school is in session as normal, I don't see how any entity could justify trying to enforce social distancing at extra curricular events.

I wouldn't think the fan aspect would be as big of a concern with high school sports. There are very few schools and games that produce a large amount of fans like a college or NFL game does. Yes, there will be some schools that will have to take that into concern, but I don't see that many. For most high school associates their decisions will be more directed towards the players and coaches, and their safety. Matt Jones of KSR had a post last night how UK is potentially going to handle the return of their football athletes back to campus, and while I'm not sure how UofL is handling their situation I do believe they could have football players back this week. It will be interesting to see what the KHSAA announces in the next few days. In FL where I am, it was stated a few weeks ago the FHSAA had canceled all athletic activities until June 15th, but then I noticed on their website last night they are allowing for high school participation to begin June 1st. The catch is they are leaving it up to each school district to on when they will allow student athletes back on campus. In Hillsborough County as far as I'm aware, we're still closed until June 15th. I don't think the KHSAA will allow things to start back up June 1st, but say it comes down to each school district to make the official open date, but it may not be a bad idea to say maybe June 8th as an open date, but leave it open to each school district to make the call. We shall see.

Districts are currently making drastic plans to maintain social distancing: 1/2 students in the building, limiting transitions, eliminating common spaces, etc.

If extracurriculars endanger the huge changes that are being made to have a modified school during the day extracurriculars won’t happen.

I think they (KHSAA) keep people away through the normal dead period and then it's all systems go after that.
