If you're under the age of 60 the odds are in your favor.

And the odds are even better if you're vaccinated.

I'll take my chances. Hard pass.

Let me beat "them" to the punch ... 26 vaccinated people in the hospital? Why in the world should someone get vaccinated?

You do understand that operating a hospital is a business right?   They are supposed to always be at near capacity, having open beds left and right is like McDonalds having 10 cashiers for 5 registers. The vast majority of hospitals are not out of beds, they are out of staff, some of this is self-inflicted, firing people who don't submit into forced vaccines.

Sure, I understand all that.

Over 130,000 new cases a day in the US. Highest number of active cases in the entirety of the pandemic. That may be a contributing factor to hospitals being full.

The good news is those hospitals have become pretty good at treating this so the death rate is not spiking like the number of cases. We are getting to herd immunity one way or the other.

Fair enough, I simply think a lot of people think that when hospitals are “full” or at “capacity” people think it’s apocalyptic.  That’s not the case.

Kinda true. The hospital I work at is almost always 100% full with people waiting in the ER for a bed.  That being said, COVID patients have displaced “money making” patients as elective surgeries have been pushed back repeatedly because of bed/staff shortages. They also require more intense, time consuming care on top of all the new masking and gowning restrictions required for ALL patients. So, though we are full, as always, the patient population dynamics have changed. COVID patients have put stress on every department in some way or another.

Indeed. Just as virus models predicted.

On NPR this morning they were saying the number of cases nationwide has begun to dip. Many doctors are optimistic the end is near which I would assume means we hit that line of vaccinated + already contracted / antibodies = some semblance of herd immunity.

Deaths are approaching 700,000.

Sounds like good news. Let's hope it continues!

65.95 today. Little tick up. Probably will be fluctuations in data from time to time.
