Then let them do it. It’s allowed at a much easier rate at every other level. I grew very fascinated with what Joe Burrow did for LSU this year in football and it made me think what if he was never allowed to transfer? If players from an AAU program want to team up and play together I do not see a problem with that if all the parents are on board. Fans like to see great teams, obviously you would like to see kids stick it out but there are free college educations on the line for some of these families. To withhold them from that is unbelievable and wrong to me. Just my opinion.

A county such as Jefferson with over 700,000 people and probably 40 high schools have a huge potential for a few schools to corral many of the elite players in the county and form super teams. It would no doubt be fun to watch teams with that kind of talent perform but there would be such a wide gap between them and about 98% of the other schools in the state that no one else would have a chance. More than likely the pre-state tournament analysts would be basically talking about maybe 2 schools that could win the title and the rest of the field would be irrelevant.

I can live with any changes made and will still be at the state tournament each year but it would take a lot of the intrigue out of the event.

I hear you but it is already happening now anyways. There will be teams in the Sweet 16 with kids on their team that are either transfers or living out of that school district. Punishing the ones for flawed paperwork is pointless.

I'm sorry but regardless of the year, there are no more than 3-4 teams that pre-state tournament analysts even talk about. Also, if you're worried about teams dominating regions like in Louisville, you are too late. Ballard and Trinity are already doing that and I believe you're about to see Butler and Fern Creek do the same thing in the 6th. Cov Cath has won 4 of the last 6 9th Region titles and that will be the norm as long as they operate how they currently do. No other schools besides Warren Central and Bowling Green have won a 4th Region title in the last 10 years. Only four schools have won the 2nd, 5th, 11th, and 14th Regions in that time span. Parity is not what we think it is in our state.

Couldn't agree more. Especially with the free educations on the line part. Adults would rather see a kid get a raw deal and sit on the bench or not be the best they can be, then move somewhere, flourish, and get their schooling paid for. Especially since everything was cleared already.

 

If you lie, it is a heck of a lot easier to be cleared than to tell the truth and not meet qualifications/standards.

Being cleared under false pretenses doesn't mean the KHSAA has to eat its mistake (when it didn't even know it was a mistake) and doesn't mean Greenup to reap the benefits of sneaking one in.

The Super has no choice. I find no fault in the actions that were made. My beef is with the archaic transfer rule.

Of course if the transfer rules weren't as they are, and provided more freedom, the need to cheat/lie wouldn't be there. That being said, if you decide to break the rules, you run the risk of being caught, and punished.

From what I understand, the player in question was cleared twice to play for this season. Lewis county hired a private investigator to looking into the player and I believe large his AAU coach. Upon the private investigator report Lewis county then took it to other school in the district and area to sign off on the complaint with them and sent it all to KHSAA. Which takes us to the letter on the 20th that informed Greenup Schools of some of those finding. Again this is what I’ve heard and read on other site, I’ve not heard anything first hand from people in position of knowledge at Greenup.

 

If this is true surely a individual from Lewis Co. hired a private investigator and not the school system. I don’t think under Redbook rules schools must follow a school could use school money to hire a private investigator.

I agree. I just think that a large percentage of transfers involve an intentional attempt to lie/cheat so if you get caught you serve your punishment and I am good with that.

Yep. I hate the rule. But it's rule, and if you break it, you better be prepared to deal with the consequences, and you have only yourself to blame. Also, though, the cheating happens because of the bad rule. Changing the rule and allowing transfers, gets rid of the need to skirt the rule.
