Not that I don't agree with you in general but I wouldn't necessarily say it would make the road tough for the higher seeded teams if Greenup was bumped down in seeding. The numbers Dryden was putting up will be nearly impossible for them to replace in such short notice.

 

That said the KHSAA never acts quickly on a final ruling, so there won't be any changes in Greenup Countys season thus far. By the time it's over and done with they will likely be handed losses for every game he played in. That's a moot point at the moment though.

Part of me thinks this happened about 10 years ago. I seem to remember the superintendent accusing Jim Bob Hicks of some kind of violation.

Kids only go through High School once and it can really sets their path for the future. Not all systems are perfect fits and many kids miss out on opportunities due to being in bad situations out of their control. That’s why I really think every student athlete should get one granted transfer. If it’s really about the kids and looking out for their best interests. I know nothing about this situation but from what I’ve seen on Twitter the kid in question was really happy at his new school, which he has been at all school year. Why is the KHSAA just now ruling him ineligible? That’s the real shame part in all this!!! Another situation where a kid is punished for trying to do better for himself.

 

I totally agree. There are way too many great examples on how a player transferring benefits them so much. If the parents allow it and they move inside that particular district I do not see a problem. Just my opinion.

What if a bunch of AAU kids (especially in Louisville, Lexington or NKY) want to join the hot new hire?

Leaving Woodford County or the Lexington area for Greenup County isn't exactly what I'd consider joining someone better either. Seems that there is a lot more to this story than just transferring to go to a better program.

It happens all the time already all over the state! KHSAA does a pour job of policing transfers. Some cases it seems they turn their head and others they hold to the bylaws. Maybe it depends on which kids are getting turned in? Regardless, I hate seeing kids punished for this! Especially, given how inconsistent KHSAA is on governing this.

If the parents relocate for legit reasons, yes let the kids play. We both know that is not always the case. In this case the kid wasn't even going to the proper school after relocating.

That said, the KHSAA doesn't have the ability to enforce their own rules unless someone calls and complains. That's the issue I have with any scenario like this one. It's essentially an honor system until you get caught and that doesn't work in today's world. Some schools will get by with it on a regular basis, others will not.

Regardless someone at the top of the ladder had to listen and agree to it. You don't police things that you don't have the resources to police. Sets ya up for failure.

To the best of my knowledge if the transfer is completed according to the rules the kid will play, but falsifying the paper work is not the correct way. You are right, with all the kids moving around today the KHSAA doesn't have enough staff to police it properly.

Yeah they can't just go driving around and checking to see if kids live at the addresses they put on a piece of paper. It's just not possible.
