I agree. I just think that a large percentage of transfers involve an intentional attempt to lie/cheat so if you get caught you serve your punishment and I am good with that.

Agree but also the ones who act illegally and move / bring the kid in are actively tryinig to ruin the kids time that are playing an extra curricular activity for the other 3-4 teams in the district and 15-17 teams in their region. It is one thing to have a kid move legally, but don't do it illegally and there are plenty of ways to do it legally when it is actually illegal to do.

If this is true surely a individual from Lewis Co. hired a private investigator and not the school system. I don’t think under Redbook rules schools must follow a school could use school money to hire a private investigator.

I hear what you are saying. As long as those schools would deny a transfer student then I agree with you. If they choose to accept transfer students like a large majority of schools then they aren’t any different than anyone else.

Can a transfer student live in one district, play in another without paying tuition? I would think the school system would be losing ADA or SEEK money for out of district, non-tuition paying students. If you live in Ashland, but go to school in Greenup County I would think that would lead to a tuition situation unless Ashland waived that student.

Yeah, most people forget education is a business...and in many districts a BIG business. The superintendent is charged with protecting and policing all facets of the school district. Unless it has changed, principals are responsible for assuring and certifying athletic eligibility for their school.

Yes they can. You can open enroll into another district if they are willing to accept you. This is usually based on numbers, meaning if they have the room to accept out of district students. Some districts in Northern KY have an open enrollment fee and some do not. I don't believe any school loses money if a student is in another district from which they live. It would be ironic if he was living in Ashland and not paying tuition due to the spat GC and Raceland had about kids wishing to go to Raceland but lived in GC's district.

 

Maybe someone from Raceland could clear it up a little more (I admit I don't know a lot about what was going on) but from what i remember GC somehow managed to stop students in their own district from transferring to Raceland. Im speaking mainly on non athletes but given what I know about kids legally being able to transfer at will in KY I thought that was odd that they were able to stop transfers to keep kids in their own district. I would have to assume it was likely due to tuition needing to be paid? I dunno, but I'll try and find those articles again and research it.

 

If Dryden was in fact living in Ashland and going to GCHS I would assume he would have to pay tuition as well then. It would be quite ironic and look even worse if he wasn't.
