Is this the year that Simon Kenton wins the 8th?

Featured Replies

The Pioneers had a huge win over Collins the other night and have won 5 of their last 6 games. Is this the year that the Pioneers make a return to Rupp Arena? I think they have the pieces to do so and personally think that Jeremy Davis is the best shooter from beyond the arc in the KHSAA this season.

Without a question...no. I have watched a few Collins games and they tend to lose focus. Gaither will have them ready come Region. Best three teams are still Collins, Oldham County, and South Oldham. I think when SK visits Oldham and hosts Woodford you will see what their true chances are.

I think they could but in the past I feel they have had good enough teams to do it but they seem to fade towards the end of the season. If they can reverse that trend from years past possibly but I feel they are with a group of teams that are behind. Collins, S. Oldham, and Oldham. imo.

I think this game was just another reason why the 8th region tournament will be one of if not the most exciting regional tournament in the state this year, on any given night you have about 5-7 legit teams that could win the tournament!

SK really has only one bad loss, and the "load management" for Niece at the start of the season did not produce the results a healthy Niece would have. If Collins performs like they did this weekend against Anderson and SK then they are vulnerable. I don't think SK will beat Oldham County in Buckner on 2/6, but its possible they can beat them on a neutral floor. SK came to Crestwood last year and beat a similar South Oldham team on its home court.

It is definitely possible!

Will SK win the 8th, no way. Yes they beat Collins and lost to Grant County the night before. Collins, S. Oldham, or Oldham County wins the 8th this year.

I’m saying no every year until they prove me wrong.

I would say Simon Kenton has no chance.

To say no they won’t win it I understand but to say no chance is a ridiculous statement.

3 teams are the clear favorites for good reason, it would be an uphill battle for sure but they do have the pieces and playmakers to make a run if the outside shots are falling.

I agree. These are high school players. To paraphrase Forrest Gump, High school players are like a box of chocolate, you never know what you are going to get.

Not trying to be disrespectful but teams that rely so much on one player generally don't go very far in tournaments. You asked if they could reach the sweet sixteen. There are too many good teams above them. Just because you knock off a contender in one game doesn't mean much. They did lose to Grant County the night before. I truly believe that Simon Kenton has almost no chance of winning the 8th region. Great win against Collins though. Niece had to get 39 to upset Collins. He would probably need to do that three games in a row. Not going to happen.

I like your thinking. It's been, what, 15 years since they moved to the 8th? I remember that the talk was they were going to waltz to Rupp each year. This has been a big old fashioned dose of karma.

I suppose it all depends on if they run into Jon Jones along the way...

48% on threes for Jeremy Davis. Impressive. Leads KHSAA in threes made per game.

Best 3 baller I've seen where the Royal and White.
