High school coaching searches are the funniest thing to me.

Agree to disagree. Are you of the belief that any of the let's say top 30 teams this past season would not have been as good if you had the coaches of the worst 30 teams?

Teams that have the best players win. As long as talent keeps showing up at Cooper they will be good. Oh, same thing on the girls side. If you have the best players just roll any old side of beef onto the sidelines and you will be fine.

One of these teams wins the region next season. North Oldham the favorite but the rest in no particular order. Nobody else will get as much as a sniff of winning the region next season. North Oldham Woodford Spencer South Oldham Collins

In short, if they have the best collection of 6-8 players on varsity you could almost hire a loaf of rye bread to coach. I am aware of the ridiculous nature of that last comment. Said for dramatic effect

If the same kind of talent ends up at Cooper they will be just fine regardless of who they hire. High School coach searches are some of the most comical exercises undertaken each year. Especially for a public school who in theory can control who attends the school.

I know I sound like a Debbie Downer but it is true. Without good players, nobody would know the names of any of these coaches. We remember the coaches names because they are the ones there year in and year out.

Sean Woods. Loved him as a player and I am sure he is a fine coach but as I have said a million times before, you could go dig up John Wooden, Bob Knight, bring in Coach K and Red Auerbach, if the players continue to choose to go to great crossing then nothing will change very much.

Probably been said in this thread before. Scott Co. Will be down until the talent level increases. You can roll John Wooden, Bob Knight, or whoever you want in there, doesn't matter until the better kids start coming back to Scott Co.

In regards to Neal and Fisher at NO. They both started on the state tournament team as sophomores and on the regional runner up team as juniors.

Although I agree Burns does a great job at Spencer County, I have to respectfully disagree with your take on Spencer this year. There is no way they win the 8th this season. I know teams have to get to the Roy first but it is a three team race to Rupp. North Oldham South Oldham Simon Kenton

Simpson, Levitch, Burns, Gaither in that order. The teams with the best players in the region since 2020 are. Collins: McKnight and Vail North: Roberts, Higdon, Anderson, Neil, Fisher. Oldham: Green, Campbell, Slone Woodford: Johnson Spencer: Cox and Erhardt The teams that have the best players USUALLY wins.

Unless they have some new players show up on campus they will be average at best. Renner doesn't have Ballard athletes at his disposal at Oldham.

That is why they are in my top 5. Barring something catastrophic (I won't say the word). One of those five teams are cutting down the nets in New Castle.

My preseason top 5. 1. Woodford 2. South Oldham 3. Sk 4. Walton 5. Spencer The teams that have the best players win. These five teams have the best players in the region in my humble opinion. Unless Collins, OC, and North have some new players show up then they will not be in the mix.

Oldham County opened in 1953 and doggone it if they didn't win the eighth in their second year of existence in 1954. Oldham has averaged winning the region once every 4 seasons roughly. (Including I believe a run of 5 in a row in the late 80's early 90's.) I expect that to continue whether with Chris Renner, John Wooden, or Adolf Rupp or Joe the plumber. Only thing is like I said in an earlier post, let's see how many "new" Oldham Countians we have.

Exactly. Rick Pitino wouldn't win at those schools Chris was previously at. He won at Ballard because they had better players than everyone else. He will win in the 8th because Oldham is going to have probably the top four in talent go to that school. Just like they always have. It does not matter who coaches them.

They absolutely will with Renner. They also have under Hoggard, Forrest, Holland, and Coach Z. They also would have under Leslie if he stuck around longer. Point is, anyone that coaches at OC will at some point win the 8th multiple times.

Nothing against Renner or any coach for that matter. We just have to stop coach worship at any level really. I have said it before and it is a hill I will die on. If Renner had the Carroll County roster for those 24 seasons we more than likely are not talking about what a great hire this is.

Record is something like 52-147 when not coaching Ballard. The available athletes is FAR and away more important than the guy on the sidelines.

The eighth will always come down to OC, Collins, Woodford with some surprise appearances by SO. Sure you will have your once in a generation team from one of the small schools (Spencer last season)and some semi competitive teams elsewhere but the bottom half of the region are just playing to make the regional tournament. Not that that is a bad thing, it is quite an accomplishment.
