This is where I’m at too after this game. Like people can talk about the great defense UK played today and rightfully so. But Magee was just off today. Great defense didn’t cause him to miss all 12 of the 3’s he attempted. Yeah the defense made it much more difficult, but a great shooter like that doesn’t miss 12 straight 3’s no matter how great the defense.

A guy who had a really good game not mentioned much was Baker. He got most of the minutes when Johnson in foul trouble. He had a very solid game on both sides of the floor.

 

Wofford had a possession before the end of the first half and I think Baker was defending Magee I think. But the defensive pressure that he brought on the possession was something that we have yet to see out of him. If he can consistently bring that then he will see a lot more playing time.

Where UK misses PJ on offense isn’t exactly his scoring, but his ability to spread the court. It is now a cluttered mess.

I really hope he stays. I really think he has a chance to be a very good player here that all fans eventually love if he stays. Good defender, good passer, smart player. His biggest strength is suppose to be his shooting, so eventually that will come around once he plays more consistently in the future.

Definitely. Teams have to collapse on him some when he is on that block, so we get much better looks for our guards.

I agree with you but at th same time the team is very much trying to figure out their offense without the player it probably ran through the most. And man did it show yesterday.

I hear you but it is all relative. It doesn't really work like that. If he hits a three in the first half everything from that point on in the game is different. You can't look back on a game through in a couple baskets and say it would have been a tie. Who knows what would have happened and how each team would have handled all the different situations, momentum, etc.?

Kenpom had Wofford as the higest 7 seed and I believe overall top 20...they were not a slouch of a team. In fact outside of the UK fanbase many were picking them to pull the upset. I'm just happy to get the win and advance against a much better team than most think they were.

As much as you are on target in your basketball comments, I am going to disagree with you on this one. I do think they miss PJ's scoring. That game yesterday would not have been as close with PJ down low on offense. Travis just isn't the threat down low on offense that PJ is and teams can adjust their whole defense because PJ isn't there as a scoring threat down low. You are right though about the cluttered mess.

 

On this, assuming PJ is out, EJ needs to be ramped up quickly as a low post scoring threat for UK to have any title chance. Travis is only going to be a complimentary threat. EJ has the potential to be like PJ - almost unstoppable down low. He obviously isn't going to get to PJ level in a week, but if they can just get him worked into the offense enough to be a threat defenses have to plan for, mission accomplished.

Interesting. I thought he forced up bad shots and didn't attack the basket enough versus UK. As good a shooter as he is, bad shots make you shoot bad. We have seen the same thing with Herro all year. When he squares up and gets open looks, deadly. When he forces up shots and is off balance, below average. Magee is too pure to just settle for threes. He needs to hit that pull up jumper that Herro has in his game and Magee needs to be able to attack the rim. No matter how good you are, if you are one dimensional it doesn't work on any level.
