Interesting. I thought he forced up bad shots and didn't attack the basket enough versus UK. As good a shooter as he is, bad shots make you shoot bad. We have seen the same thing with Herro all year. When he squares up and gets open looks, deadly. When he forces up shots and is off balance, below average. Magee is too pure to just settle for threes. He needs to hit that pull up jumper that Herro has in his game and Magee needs to be able to attack the rim. No matter how good you are, if you are one dimensional it doesn't work on any level.

Fletcher Magee career 3P% in 20 Tier A games: 29.1%. In all other games vs D-I teams: 45.2%.

Wofford had a possession before the end of the first half and I think Baker was defending Magee I think. But the defensive pressure that he brought on the possession was something that we have yet to see out of him. If he can consistently bring that then he will see a lot more playing time.

 

He has played pretty good defense all year when he has been in. It's been hard for him to get minutes because two of Uks best players Herro and Johnson play the position he could play. Johnsons foul trouble yesterday allowed him to get extended minutes.

I hope he stays too, but it'll be a loaded backcourt next year. I will understand if he leaves.

 

Maxey is the only guard coming in next year correct? If Herro stays then yeah it will be very crowded and he probably transfers. If Herro leaves which looks more likely now. Then I think he may stay.

 

Which if I was Cal I would try convince him to stay by saying if you transfer you would have to sit out again. If you stay then you would get some minutes still. Then the next year the back court may be more open. Or if not he may be on pace to graduate after 3 years, since next year would be his third. So he could stay next year and then leave as a grad transfer and play immediately if he isnt happy on the situation here. So if he is on track to graduate after next year. Then probably would make sense to stay next year no matter what hopefully.

Just look at the shots he made against Kansas State. Those were very tough and much like the shots he took against UK, except they went in against Kansas State. As for Herro I still think he has consistently shown he is a better shooter off the dribble even with a hand his face, than he has been squared open off a pass. Shoot even the two shots he made yesterday including the big 3 with five minutes left came off the dribble with a man still on him. He clanked the shots off passes even when set.

Yeah but PJ didn’t play. I’m talking about stuff that actually happened. UK should have never been in that close of a ball game with a team like Wofford with or without PJ.

 

It's the NCAA tournament man. Its reasons why you see upsets. Reason why you see a 16 seed only down 3 to mighty Duke at half. Reason why a 16 seed was once again up 15 points on a one seed like Virginia. Why Michigan State was trailing to a 15 seed with 5 minutes left.

 

Wofford in a one and out tournament is very dangerous. They play very hard, good shooting team, good player down low, and they run a very good offense with lots of movement and picks.

 

With that said when you take UKs best player out in Washington. UKs other best scorer Herro having to chase those shooters all day, probably causing his off night. Then Johnson playing only half the game in foul trouble. That's a nice little recipe for the game to be close.

 

I'm not so sure why some if you are so obsessed with it being close. We see teams like Wofford win games like this all the time in this tournament against big teams. UK didnt let that happen and basically led the whole second half. Good win, now on to the next.

You keep acting like Wofford is not good. IMO North Carolina is ecstatic that UK beat Wofford. If I were designing a team to beat UNC, it would look a lot like Wofford.
