Wow! Ben Sisson played a whale of a game. He was absolutely dominant at his position last night. Seemed like he was in on most every play.

 

And what a stud the Mayer boy is. Actually CCH, wow, their size is crazy huge. They will give fits trying to match up with.

 

MaGinnis, yeah well best back HHS has seen this year for sure.

 

But the hit that Huddy put on Mayer when he was lead blocking on offense, yeah kinda set the tone a bit for the evening. Guessing he hasn’t been on that side of too many of those.

 

But what a great game by both sides. Fun to watch and hopefully both can advance and meet again in a few weeks.

Good to see Highlands getting close to "Highlands" level. Hopefully all will be healthy for playoffs.

I’ll give you home field advantage but I thought the rain helped the Colonels. Highlands pass game suffered with the rain. Cov Caths run game should benefit in the rain with their size advantage. The drop on the last Highlands drive slipped right through the most sure handed hands on the team. No rain and that game might have gone to OT. Weather is part of football though, have to play in the rain. Not an excuse, we lost. I’m just saying Highlands wants a dry field in the rematch please.

 

Mayer was pretty quiet though, how did that happen? If he has a big game in the likely rematch birds better not give gift TDS.

 

To me, he was all over the field on defense? On offense, as was stated before, the QB really struggled and it wouldn't surprise me if he had less than 100 yards passing. I know in the 1st half he widely overthrew at least 3 guys whom were wide open and would have been large gains.

 

McGinness is a stud, whom gets A LOT of work. I hope CCH monitors his touches from hear on out (until the playoffs) because without him, CCH will not win state.

Sophomore Joe Buten #26 for Highlands has to be on the Field at all times for Highlands. With him and Cooper Schwalbach in the Backfield at the same time it opens a totally different element. It showed last night that Joe can play at any level. Good things ahead for #26!

Congrats to both teams, that was a really competitive game.

 

Interesting coming from the guy who wondered why anyone would dare to think Highlands had a chance. This game played out exactly as I thought. Highlands D is just as good as CCH. For Highlands to win, they had to win the turnover battle. They didn't. That was the difference. CCH scored on 1 true drive. The others coming from less than 10 yard fields because of HHS turnovers. CREDIT CCH. They capitalized on the turnovers and that was the difference. Many things could have gone other ways like dropped balls, close 4th downs, and fake punts, but at the end of the day, those are all part of the game. Here is the truth. Very few on here believed HHS would compete. Many on here called for running clocks in the 3rd. I TOLD YOU these kids at HHS BELIEVE they can play and beat anyone. It showed tonight. I was very impressed with McGuiness. He carried the team and was the only thing CCH had. It's going to be interesting come playoffs.

Like McGinness, Joe Riley runs with that same intensity and he put that on display last night by gaining 130 plus yards against top ranked CovCath! He is a kid that could get it done on both sides of the ball as a sophomore for the Birds. Congratulations on a great game Joe!

Great job by Birds. They are certainly #4 in 5A. CovCath did what great teams do - find a way to win. Congrats to the Blue Colonels!

Buten was very impressive.

I always wondered what side of the ball Joe Buten would choose. He’s the best tackler in the Sophomore class by Far. Kind of glad he’s on Offense this morning. Highlands needed him and Cooper on the Field last night at the same time. One compliments the Other!

Has Cov Cath run that jet sweep play this season as much as did last night? It was pretty effective, they have that FB or RB dive that plays off the jet sweep fake too. Didn’t know if that was dialed up specific for Birds or if that has been a big part of their offense all year.

Covington Catholic is as good as they have been. It was a major rivalry at their opponents stadium, as others such as Trinity/St X and more have been over the years. I think that it’s been known that Highlands is good, last night just showed that they are better than many on the outside may have assumed.

 

Add to that, the quarterback for Covington Catholic is a sophomore and won three games on the road against St Francis Desales, Bishop Chatard, and there biggest rival. This will pay off for him big over time.

Covcath is really good, their just use to showing up for games and got tagged in the process by a hungry team.

Tough to say. Cov Cath is a very good team. They have totally dominated everyone they’ve played up to Highlands. I think there has been a hype buildup though, and they are not quite as good as some have boasted. There were a couple of starters out for the Colonels, I don’t know how big of deal that was?

 

Highlands is a nasty team. I personally believe they are #2 in 5A.

 

I’d say it’s 10% Cov Cath is not as great as originally advertised. 80% Highlands is pretty much back. 10% Rivalry factor.
