I agree. Also, keep in mind, a safety is different than a touchdown. The entire ball needs to get across the line for it not to be a safety. Reffing is a tough job, and some plays are harder to see on the field than in the stands or from the sidelines. No criticism on the refs at all, but it looked like the wrong call to me as well.

What more did he expect? They ran into a motivated team that played one heck of a defensive game! I was impressed with both defenses honestly. Mayer is a monster! Was afraid he may step on someone out there.

So who played bad for CCH. Only one I saw was possibly QB struggled with any type long pass. Other than that, a few 2nd half penalties and CCH are what they are. A very good football team that getting to State just got a little tougher this year.

Has Cov Cath run that jet sweep play this season as much as did last night? It was pretty effective, they have that FB or RB dive that plays off the jet sweep fake too. Didn’t know if that was dialed up specific for Birds or if that has been a big part of their offense all year.

 

Yes, the jet sweep is a big part of Eviston's offense. He likes to make defenses go wide and play sideline to sideline and the jet sweep does that. He runs the jet sweep every game. He also likes bubble screens for the same reason. Get skilled players in space and spread the defense.

Birds controlled the clock, converted on third down, sustained drives and kept CovCath offense off the field as much as possible. Only place they slipped was turnovers. Should have been a win!

That is what you have to do - control the clock. Much easier said than done versus CCH.

Sophomore Joe Buten #26 for Highlands has to be on the Field at all times for Highlands. With him and Cooper Schwalbach in the Backfield at the same time it opens a totally different element. It showed last night that Joe can play at any level. Good things ahead for #26!

The below link seems to have a good look at the action. Based on this video it looked like a good call by the ref. 3 min 19 seconds into the video.

 

Not even close to being a safety IMO.
