7 vs. 11 sucks.

 

Yep. That is championship game caliber.

Whoever wins the 11/7 matchup will be my pick to win the tourney.

Before you get to the final four, at least 2 of the 6, 7, 9 11 will be eliminated. That is a shame, in my opinion. I get the whole "have to play them eventually" stuff, I really do, but I want the best teams playing on the weekend in the Semi-Finals and Finals.

 

I realize that 12 of the 16 regions are thrilled with how the draw went, but for a hoops fan, I'm obviously disappointed.

6th or 9th in the bottom bracket should meet the 11/7 winner on Sunday.

Funny thing is I think the 4th, 5th, and 12th all think they have a shot in that group.

I know the randomness of it is what makes it awesome but it would be interesting to seed the tournament and play it like an NCAA Tournament region.

Possibly #1 vs #2 in the state in the first rd. No wonder attendance is down. It will never happen and I’m okay with it, but needs to be seeded. Hopefully they will at least move the game to prime time. Be crazy to play this game in the early session

For preparations sake you almost have to have the dates/times of the bracket filled in advance. If you seeded, you couldn't do it until the week before it starts which is logistically tough. In my opinion, the only possible way to seed would be do a regional rating at the end of January, place the four best regions in separate quadrants of the bracket, then draw everything else.

Personally I've no problem with not seeding the Sweet 16. I get why those who think that we should think that we should, but I like having a bit of the luck of the draw impact some unexpected teams to charge into prime time, and watch with goose bumps their excitement carry them further than many had ever imagined.

 

If they're worthy, then sure they can win too with seeding, but without they have the chance to perhaps sneak into the semi's, and then after that who knows? Quite often those who are expected and deserving of taking all the marbles still do, but it's also thrilling to see a team peak just at the right time to stun us all.

 

Even if a Cinderella team doesn't win it all, because of this type of draw quite often we still see her make it to the semi-finals dance and perhaps even further. Just look at Scott High last year with Jake Ohmer for example. Where did that come from, but because of, a kid who was originally going to go to Nowhere Community College ended up playing D1.

 

There can only be one state champ, and in a case like R11 playing R7 in the first round, and we all kinda sorta consider that to be the true championship game, then the winner of that now has to go on all the way and prove it.

 

If a team is the the true best, then no matter which way they have it they will prevail, but on the road there I like the bit of excitement to see if Cinderella's gonna crash the dance, and if she has a little bit of luck getting there, then so be it.
