2A Classic set to launch in 2019

The All A is the smallest 125 schools by enrollment last I heard. That’s why I cringe when I hear it referred to as “Class A”.

It may make the sweet 16 even stronger. When the people pushing class division come knocking,.. they are told that smaller schools have an opportunity to just compete with smaller schools AND see how they stack up against the big boys. What else do they want?

Looks like it would be 6-7 games for the winner. have the regions in early December and they final 16 in late January. Perhaps even have the tournament game count as a true region game.

Perhaps even have the tournament game count as a true region game? Here we go. Sorry. Let's hear how this would work with the way it's currently aligned? This rabid nonclassificationist :) truly wants to hear this discussion.

I've only had Internet a few years so I know I may not know Internet speak yet. I use all caps if I want someone to feel the importance of my reason. No, you definitely didn't get under my skin and all caps for me doesn't mean yelling. Ask my sons and they'll tell you, it's when I use their middle name. I grew up with 5 brothers and have 6 grandchildren, 4 of which are boys. If a post makes me feel like yelling I use this :taz: It's hard to demonstrate emotions without voice or facial expression. This is a good discussion that needs to be addressed.

I know all too well what happens when the middle name is used.

A couple of things.

-you can still have a Cinderella. The All A is a mid season tournament

- winning regional is getting tougher each year with the consolidations of schools across the state. For example in the 1st region you have McCracken with over 2000 students, Marshall and Graves that are 5A and 6A football size. Calloway has over 900 and Tilghman around 800 then there is a huge drop going below 100 for Fulton City, St. Mary, CCA.

- Tackett will have classes for football but won’t even listen for other team sports. His replay is always we are not in the business of giving out trophies but they class Football, cross country, and track and field.

That's only if you're basing it on football classes.

Well... what else do you suppose we should base it on?

Agree... how many basketball playing schools are there? It has to be over a third playing in the A.

Just wait til the 2A/A-D Classic, schools that begin with the letters A-D and so on... winner gets an automatic bid to the Mega Bowl, which is played the week before the Sweet Sixteen at Alltech Arena.

Prediction. All a public schools will lobby the all a to force private schools to play in the "all 2a".

No!

It would probably work just like the All A does...teams play Region All A games in early January and go to the All A Tourney in late January. It doesn't impact district or region games in any way.

No!

I hope not too. But the public schools have floated the idea of making private schools play “up” for years.

So the schools that are over 1000+ have a tournament should have one called “Big School Classic” and have it at the Yum! Center? This idea is one that I am not for due to it 100% will lead to classifications.

Just a few things to consider:

Sponsors-paying for officials, venue, workers, security, etc. If they don’t get big sponsors it would be hard to put on a good tournament.

With the 30 game limit, this might be an isssue with scheduling

With the state budget potentially affecting all school districts(busses and salaries) more basketball may not be financially suitable

It will be interesting to see how this pans out.

My humble opinion, I like it the way it is. The All-A is what it is. The state tournament in March is the pinnacle and should never change.

St.X has most boys of any school and lost to DeSales by double digits last night, so the small schools can beat the big ones

Well... what else do you suppose we should base it on?

I believe Track and Cross Country both have 3, which might make more sense than 6.
