2A Classic set to launch in 2019

If they go ahead and do this, it will be the end of David vs. Goliath at Rupp. No more excitement for Cinderella. Before, it was A REALLY BIG DEAL for small schools to win their Region. Five guys or possibly girls who had played together and stayed together since 3rd or 4th grade and knew each other's every move and strength, playing in and possibly winning the SWEET SIXTEEN. I don't like where Kentucky is headed with these classes, 1A and now 2A. To win the All A and now 2A, is a really good thing. But to this Old Timer, it just isn't the SWEET SIXTEEN.

If a school wins The All 1A or now possibly The All 2A they still have a chance to win their Region and go to Rupp, can't they? If so, you can still get your David vs. Goliath which I'm with you is one of the great storylines of the Sweet 16.

No offense but that could be taken as we need to catch up with the rest of the country. I don't really know how I feel about it; I just know that everytime it's brought up on BGP people's heads start exploding and I wanted to know why. David vs Goliath is good but also a level playing field would be good as well.

Winning it all "in your class" just isn't the same for someone born, bled and raised in Kentucky like me. I couldn't care less about keeping up with anything in Ohio. Or the country. It's the tradition with me that counts. I realize that doesn't mean zilch to some people but it does to me.

No one is fooled by this persuasion argument, BUT THEY CAN STILL PLAY IN RUPP IN THE SWEET SIXTEEN. It's a slow slide to basketball classification and the end of THE SWEET SIXTEEN.

I see where you are coming from now. I don't know why you are going with the all caps about THE SWEET SIXTEEN I was not trying to get under your skin and cause you to yell at me, at least my kids tell me that when I use all caps.

Not sure why we see the hate for this. The all a hasn't ruined the sweet 16. Why would this?

I have no HATE for the All A or All 2A to come. Grief would better describe the loss of THE SWEET 16.

So where is it being reported that the sweet 16 is ending?

I've only had Internet a few years so I know I may not know Internet speak yet. I use all caps if I want someone to feel the importance of my reason. No, you definitely didn't get under my skin and all caps for me doesn't mean yelling. Ask my sons and they'll tell you, it's when I use their middle name. I grew up with 5 brothers and have 6 grandchildren, 4 of which are boys. If a post makes me feel like yelling I use this :taz: It's hard to demonstrate emotions without voice or facial expression. This is a good discussion that needs to be addressed.

It may make the sweet 16 even stronger. When the people pushing class division come knocking,.. they are told that smaller schools have an opportunity to just compete with smaller schools AND see how they stack up against the big boys. What else do they want?

Looks like it would be 6-7 games for the winner. have the regions in early December and they final 16 in late january. Perhaps even have the tournament game count as a true region game.

Folks.....the All A has been keeping the rabid classificationists at bay for a long time. I see no reason that the 2A Classic will not do the same.

No where, it's just an intuitive feeling I have, I guess. I was just answering a question from another post.

agree

I like the idea of another statewide tournament, and in general this sounds like a great idea.

I don't like that the organizers seem to be hoping to springboard this into full KHSAA classification.

In all reality, half the teams already playing in the All A probably wouldn’t qualify as “A” school by most standards anyways. So this will really be more of a “3/4A” Classic than 2A

That's only if you're basing it on football classes.
