1982 Highlands 6 Franklin Simpson 0 .It capped off the State of Ky's 1st ever 15-0 season and the Bragging rights to King of the Bluegrass after beating eventual at that time 4A State Champ Christian Co. earlier in the year. That Highlands team was very good!

1988 3A championship game between CovCath and Paducah Tilghman.

The Blue Tornado led 17-3 entering the 4th quarter when CovCath scored 21 straight to take a 24-17 lead. Tilghman score late in the 4th to force overtime, where CovCath would score once more to win 30-24 in OT.

My father and I have been going to the state finals every year since 1998. I've spent a good deal of time this week thinking about some of the best games I've seen. I thought I'd pose the question to BGP: what was the best game in state finals history?

Caveat: You can't say the Trinity/Male game from 2002 because there really is no competitor to that!

Well you just took away my answer.:taz:

If not Brohm v Bush then...

Trinity vs X 2007

X is undefeated and playing for it's first undefeated season under Mike Glaser (I'm still amazed that he never had an undefeated season but I digress). X had beaten Trinity 24-15 in the regular season game (Glaser held an umbrella at mid field after the game) and came in favored in this contest. X gets a TD on a fake field goal to go up 28-21 at half. The second half is a defensive struggle with no score until Trinity with QB Will Stein mounts a drive and scores with :32 left in the game to tie and force OT. Trinity wins the toss and opts for D first. For some inexplicable reason X passes on first down and the ball is intercepted by Donovan Sims. On 1st down Trinity RB Tim Phillips ran hard and picked up nine yards but was denied the end zone. Next play LB Wes Weitlauf lines up at FB and with everyone expecting him to lead block for Philips he instead takes the hand off and dives over for the winning TD. Great game.

1999. STX vs Bryan Station. OT. In the rain. X won 34-31

IIRC BS got the ball first in OT. As the teams were lined up for the first play, all the STX D linemen flopped to the ground causing BS to false start. Held BS to a FG. STX scored their TD on a 4th down run from the 1. Ran right behind Rabatin, who went on to play center at UofL. BS had Eric Shelton who went to FL St but he ended up transferring to UofL. Hope that is accurate.

My very biased answer is the Boyle County/Lone Oak championship game in 2009. It's biased because my son was on that Boyle County team and I SOOOO much wanted him to get a ring. Boyle was down 22-7 at the half and down 29-19 with five minutes to play in the game. Boyle kicked a 38 yard field goal to send the game into overtime. In the 2nd overtime, Lone Oak had to settle for a field goal, and Boyle went for the TD on 4th down and capitalized to win the game. An unforgettable, glorious day indeed.
