Why are these two rivals playing the first game of the year?! Seems like it should be a couple weeks later.

Why are these two rivals playing the first game of the year?! Seems like it should be a couple weeks later.

 

I believe they draw for district seeds so this game doesn't have postseason implications. Both coaches would probably agree that they want to get it out of the way early before anyone knows much about either team.

 

Just my guess.
