Church Shooting in San Antonio, TX; Multiple Fatalities, Shooter Dead

Featured Replies

I'm not a LEO. I just wondered and wouldn't be surprised simply because these small churches tend to be family oriented and led. They also tend to be closed knit.

The reason for my hypothesis Jumper was the thought that a marriage is on the rocks and a guy thinks that the family and church are supporting his spouse. He goes off the deep end and takes out the source of his anger in his mind.

You could be dead on, I was was just spit balling too.

We have undercover armed "Greeters" in our church now and have had for a couple of years. One is a retired Police Lieutenant and the other is in the "Security" business.

The church that myself and my family attends in Huntington is the same. It's a large church and they typically have 4-6 greeters that remain at the rear of the congregation throughout service. I hate it that it's come to that, but I feel better knowing that they are there and are armed, otherwise I would go to church armed myself. It's sad that you need to have guns in a church to protect it's members, but that seems to be where we are in present time.

First Baptist Church Pastor Frank Pomeroy tells ABC his 14 year old daughter is among the dead.

A 13 year old and a 14 year old. Dear God, so tragic.

It would seem so.

I wondered because that would be the first target I would think. It's unimaginable so I'm just like Jumper, spit balling.

Just heard on CBS of a 6 year old boy shot 4 times and is in surgery.

So the pastor survived?

It would seem so.

The pastor was out of town and wasn't at the church.

The pastor was out of town and wasn't at the church.

This pastor is going to need prayers. I can't imagine.

Of course. People want to politicize this kind of thing probably more than anything else. I'd rather try to come together to find an actual, viable solution instead. Unfortunately, I don't know what that is at this point.

This is a heart problem. Sin. I know a book that describes all this to a T. But some will discount this( that book also says they will discount it.). All one has to do is read it to understand. That alone will make you a believer.

However this kind of stuff seems to be on the increase at a high rate. The truth is we all need prayers for the days that are coming. I agree with most everything all has said in this thread.

Shooter is 26 and from the San Antonia area.

What is it about the US that causes us to have gun violence death rates that are 30x Germany and about 100x Japan?

More people?

Anyone have any insight on what they think has changed in people that we are seeing so many people wanting to commit such atrocities?

The operative word being "rates".

Japan - .06 firearm deaths per 100,000 population per year

Germany - 1.01

United States - 10.65

United Kingdom - 0.23

Spain - 0.62

The countries whose rates are higher than ours are Brazil, Columbia, El Salvador (notice a pattern here?), Guatemala, Honduras, Jamaica, Panama, Swaziland, Uruguay and Venezuela.

List of countries by firearm-related death rate - Wikipedia

I can't debate this without getting political, just can't.

I'm pretty much with you, although I will say this.

One of these days - hopefully - people will wake up and realize that "thoughts and prayers" ain't enough.
